1964 Plymouth Sport Fury Hardtop Coupe – B body VIN: 3445173659 Engine: Max Wedge “Super Stock” Stage III Ram-charger 426 cid Race Version by Plymouth Corporation Compression: 13.50 to 1 Twin 4 bbl – 700 cfm Carburetors 4 Speed posi-traction w/ 4.11 Rear End Differential High Flow Cylinder Heads Cross-ram Aluminum Intake Manifold (tuned for peak power above 4,000 rpm’s Chrysler made less than 80 of these cars available to public buyers in the U.S. in order to compete at NASCAR racing events in 1964. This style of car won at the 1964 NASCAR Grand Nationals driven by Richard Petty or Jim Paschal at Daytona, Charlotte , Concord , Nashville (twice), Spartanburg , and Harris raceways…. This series of Sport Fury are becoming increasingly hard to find in such solid well-kept condition. Current mileage on the odometer is less than 35,000 miles and is “mileage exempt” on a Virginia title due to the rareness of this fine original race-show car. This true example of a Plymouth Sport Fury is equipped with a 426 cid “ Max Wedge ” “Super Stock” V-8 engine. The Max Wedge was a race-only version of the 426 Wedge engine offered from the factory. Known as the Super Stock Plymouth and Ramcharger Dodge, and as the “Orange Monster” on quarter mile tracks, the Max Wedge featured special high-flow cylinder heads developed through state-of-the art (at the time) airflow testing. Induction came by means of a special cross-ram aluminum intake manifold tuned for peak power above 4,000 rpm’s and two (2) 4-barrel 750 cfm carburetors, with a special drive shaft, coupled to an oversized 10.50” pressure plate clutch and a 4-speed manual transmission. Smooth everyday driving, with oversized tires, dual exhaust, power steering, power brakes, along with a 4:11 posi-traction rear differential, this car is ready for the track at any given moment.
