Vehicle description
Vehicle Details Up for your bid is a fine example of a very original 1964 Chevy El Camino with factory 4 speed Muncie. Let me start by saying there is nothing quite like an El Camino but you probably already knew that or you wouldn’t be checking out this ad. I purchased this car last summer from a friend of a customer of mine. It had been in the barn for over 30 years. The old guy who had owned it had spent 20 years working on it and just didn’t use it much. He passed away several years ago and left it to his nephew, that is who I purchased it from. They had gone out and started it now and then but not driven it much at all. It has a paint job that is 33 years old and shines amazingly well. It has a few little bumps and bruises and a rock chips and scratches but overall it’s quite amazing how well a little Polish and wax woke it up. It has what I supposed to be the original 283 V8 with a few performance modifications such as headers, aluminum intake, daul points ignition and an Edelbrock 4 barrel carb. It runs great but a tuneup wouldn’t be the worst idea down the road. The carpet looks amazingly nice and the seats, though recovered at some point in black material, are in very usable shape. The body is about 99% rust free with only a few bubbles starting over the drivers wheel well in the back. Very minor. All the glass is good and all the original rubber is still in good shape. The doors and windows all work. The aftermarket stereo does not seem to work but that’s no big surprise. There is no smoke when it is running and I haven’t seen any on start up so I think the valve guides are good. There are no major oil leaks under it. It starts up easily and runs down the road straight and smooth. It has a Muncie four-speed and shifts smoothly through the gears for a nearly 60-year-old car. Is this a perfect car, absolutely not, it has sat in a barn for many years with very little use. Is it drivable anywhere you want to go, absolutely, it doesn’t run hot and runs down the road at 70 miles an hour like butter. If you’re looking for a perfect car that is rotisserie restored this is probably not the one but if you want a usable very nice car that gets it looks wherever it goes and would show fine at a local car show and pick up some lumber on the way home then you would love this El Camino. It would make a fine candidate for a complete restoration or just driven as is. It may need a clutch in the future but other than that it has a lot of miles to give. Happy Bidding!
