Vehicle description
In 1964 two 4-barrel carburetors were available as a dealer installed option. This a completely original example of that option. To my knowledge it has never been rebuilt or even tuned up. It ran great. I bought this car from Texas and it has never seen a Minnesota winter, spring, or fall. I only drove it from March 1996 (when I titled the car) to August of 2000 (when I parked it) during the summers to car shows and drive ins. This is not a "barn" find. It has been stored in an industrial warehouse for over 20 years. I see no evidence of mice. Just a thick film of dust. It sits as it was parked over 20 years ago. What absolutely amazes me is that 3 of the 4 tires still hold the same air.
Was repainted once close to the original color. I did not repaint it, but I did have it wet sanded by a body shop and it had a pretty mirror finish (which you can see in the old photos).
It now has some very small spots of surface rust from sitting for 20+ years but is completely solid. When it was repainted there appears to be light bodywork on the nose point (see photo). I thought the bumper was rust spotted but took a rag to it and they are in good shape (see photos). Will need some chrome polish and elbow grease (or better yet, a buffer).
This car was regularly showed at the MSRA “Back to the 50’s” shows in the mid to late 90s (1964 is the last eligible year for that event). It was parked in August of 2000. I know the date because I took pictures before (and after) I parked it and still have those pictures in the original envelope with the date. It should be pretty obvious which pictures are the ones from the summer of 2000. Why did I park it? (This iswhere the Buick guys are going to hate on me) Because I was spending all my time and money on a frame off restoration of a 1969 SS Camaro and the Riv project took a back seat. Still drive the Camaro but never did get back to the Riv and now it"s time to let someone else have fun with it. I do miss driving in to Back to the 50s with a trunk full of coolers and lawn chairs. As you can see, even though I have the original air cleaner and knock-off hubcaps, I showed it with the smooth “R” caps (I just liked the look) and little air filters to show off the engine.
As is - where is. You will need a trailer. One tire will not hold air, no battery, and gas tank will probably need to be flushed. Even though it was running fine when it was parked 20 years ago, you cannot work on it here to get it running to drive home. With some serious cleaning and simple mechanical rejuvenation (I would fog the cylinders, turn it over by hand, flush the gas tank and lines, and change the oil) you could be back to the car shows in short order. This is not some car in need of restoration. It"s 90% ready to drive.
There are 2+ pallets of first-generation Riviera parts (the Red 1996 Riviera next to it is NOT included in the parts). You don"t have to take all of them, just what you want, and I can get rid of the rest. Or the whole lot. Your choice.
The air conditioning didn"t blow cold air when I bought it so I took off the compressor to give me more room to clean up the engine bay. Should still have all the parts. Also I was buying up other accessories to add to the car and have first generation Riviera AM/FM radio, power antenna, Guide-Matic Autotronic Eye (with complete dashboard and control module), cruise control, rear defroster, two full sets of hubcaps(derby and knock off) and 3 odd WildCat hubcaps, pneumatic trunk release, interior and exterior trim, two nailhead engines, books, manuals. . over two pallets of parts. Car is in Isle, MN (about 90 miles North of Minneapolis, St. Paul).
Payment: bank CASHIER’S check or CASH at time of pick up. No exceptions.
Thanks for looking (and reading down this far).
