Vehicle description

Volkswagen Beetle - Classic.
1963 Standard Bug with roof rack. Painted flat black. Clear Illinois Title.
Mileage says 51,000 miles. . . not sure that is correct.
I bought this bug just before the lockdowns started in January of 2020.
I came from southern California. It is rare to find a good one in Illinois.
As far as I know there is no rust on the car. When I got it the only rust I could find was some light dust in the battery tray. So I vacuumed it out and coated it with POR 15. The battery tray was very solid, The heater channels also are solid (but not hooked up) as are the floors, running boards, and front end. I tried to get a couple of underneath pics but as I am 74 it isn"t easy and they are not very good.
The car was sold to me as Running/Driving car but it went downhill from there.
Over the next year . . . here is what I replaced or repaired…….
New stock Carburetor (I believe I have the old one) New electronic Distributor (old one goes with car) New Coil New electronic Fuel Pump + filter
Because of the above it starts easy, runs good and stops good . .I don"t know the size of the engine . . also all lights work.
New outside door handles from JBugs
New outside EMPI mirrors.
The car has a fresh oil change and the valves have just been adjusted.
I also added a battery tender lead so I could plug in the battery in the winter.
Replaced the shifter and rebuilt shift rod……. .
New stock shifter from JBugs (old one goes with car) New EMPI quick shift kit from Jbugs New shift coupling New shift bushing (I think I would take the EMPI shift kit off as it seems hard to hit 1st gear and it is very close to 3rd) (that"s a two bolt job)
New stock rear Spring plates. It had a 5” drop rear spring plate on it when I got the car and I replaced them with stock. They can still be adjusted if a person wants to lower the rear of the car but, I have never liked the back wheels “tilting in” look.
The front end beam is also lowered and narrowed but I do not know how. I have looked underneath but cannot determine how the front beam was lowered.
The car came with an Alpine stereo/CD but the face plate was missing. I bought another stereo from and used the face plate on the existing stereo. The other radio/CD goes with the car.
What I think the car needs…………But it is drive-able as is. Of course it needs new door cards and rear cards. (you can see in the pics) The seats are a little “squishy” for me (I"m a bigger person) The carpet needs glued down or replaced with floor mats There is a large sub-woofer and an amp bolted behind the back seat that probably is not hooked up. It does not work with the stereo and the previous owner did not tell me it was there, so I don’t know what is up with that. The deck lid (over the engine) needs to have a new spring, which I will send one with it, but the bracket for the spring is broken loose from the deck lid and needs to be re-welded. The hood lock down (in front) needs some adjustment. The back tires are two different sizes. I just noticed that.
