Seldom does one of the very first American-delivery Toyota FJ40 Land Cruisers become available. And far less seldom does one become available that has been the recipient of a fully-disassembled, nut and bolt, frame-up concours restoration with nothing left untouched. This listing offers just that, a 1963 Toyota FJ40 Land Cruiser with only 600+/- break-in and show miles (no off-road miles). (PLEASE NOTE: The tear drop trailer shown in a few photos IS NOT INCLUDED in this listing, but is available separately under another of my listings, or as a package with this FJ40. Please contact me if seriously interested.) Items that are included with this FJ40 are the very rare factory-original, optional TEQ PTO winch. and exceptionally rare factory-original, heavy canvas tool kit with the "unobtanium" factory-original owner"s manual. Notice also the rare, year-correct California vintage license plate that is included. This FJ40 also comes with its original bottle jack, extension rods, and crank, all correctly mounted under the rear seats, the plug-in trouble light, etc. For additional room it is equipped with a smaller diameter steering wheel, however the original steering wheel and horn button are included. New reproduction vintage tires and original rims are currently mounted although a photo or two show the vehicle mounted with larger wheels and tires which are not included. The unrestored and uninstalled heater is included. The winch PTO, shaft, and pillow block bearing are included but not installed. For those of you who look at photos with a microscope, the hand grenade shift knob has been replaced with the original shift knob and is not included.
This very early FJ40 was sourced as an excellent candidate for this degree of restoration, entirely disassembled with every part, nut, and bolt catalogued, then each painstakingly restored or replaced, if required, with correct parts. Again, nothing was left untouched. The body/tub/fenders were removed from the chassis, every part of the chassis removed and restored or replaced, and the chassis completely restored and powder coated gloss black. Reassembly commenced with the installation of a newly-rebuilt Toyota FJ40 six cylinder 2F, 3.9 liter, 135 HP engine complete with headers, and complete driveline and suspension restoration. It has the original three speed manual floor shifting transmission. The body/tub/fenders were then completely restored, painted, and mounted. Needless to say, the restoration included thousands of parts including but not limited to a new wiring harness, front disc brakes, gauge cluster, new original fabric top, and more! Hundreds of photographs to document.
This amazing FJ40 Land Cruiser has nearly $80,000 in restoration costs including $58,000 in contracted and material receipts and $20,000+ in owner provided labor, management, cataloging, etc. The restoration receipt file, which is included with the sale, is 2" thick with hundreds of entries. Presented also in an album and included with the sale, this FJ40 comes with photos of it when originally found, restoration photos, show photos, rare factory brochures, original ads, original articles about FJ40"s, and much more.
