1963 1/2 Galaxie 500 2 Door Fastback Hardtop
History on the car: The car was originally a 352 V8 car. At some point in its life, the former owner replaced the motor in the car with a 65 model Thunderbird 390 (4bbl - 300hp motor). The current owner got the car after this owner passed. The current owner and the former owner were cousins, and the current owner being a big Ford guy, and Galaxie guy (he’s owned another 63 Galaxie since the 60s that is not for sale), became the logical person to end up with the car. The current owner has owned the car since 2016. The former owner did this engine swap and was told that 390 motor only had 44k miles on it at that time. We do not know when that was done or how many miles have been put on the car since. The body of the car appears to have 94,772 miles on it, according to the odometer (no way to verify this). The mileage is subject to going up some as we have the car cross posted elsewhere for sale and assume potential buyers will want to take take it for a drive, etc. The car runs and drives great! The automatic transmission shifts as it should, and the car does have factory power steering on it, which works great! Like most old Fords, it’s a bit cold natured at times, but runs great and drives wonderful! This is a great cruiser that someone is going to enjoy owning and driving, you can’t beat the styling of the 63 1/2 fastbacks!
Upgrades: At some point someone purchased a aftermarket air conditioning set up and began installing it as you can see in the pictures under the dash. This too was started by the last owner this, but he never finished installing it. The car comes with the compressor and bracket to mount, these are seen in the picture of inside the trunk. The hoses were already run to the engine compartment from the interior, for the AC setup. Those hoses are tied up to the side. A good bit of the stainless trim was replaced at some point, maybe from Dennis Carpenter? This was done before the current owner got the car. We believe the front bumper was re-chromed at some point, but the back bumper was not and it shows, see pic of the back bumper. The gas tank was replaced 5 years or so ago. Since owned by the current owner he has always used lead additive and octane booster in the gas, and always uses oil with zinc in it, meant for older vehicles. The battery stays on a trickle charger.
Paint and body: The paint on the car has usual chips and places in it and it could use a paint job, but could also probably be brought up a good bit with a good buffing and wax. There are a few dents around on the body of the car, but the body appears to be very, very solid. Grille and the plate on the rear both look great! Both pieces are nice and straight, which is also a nice find on one of these cars, as is not always the case.
Interior: It has new red interior, which is 5 years old or so, and looks great. Couple of little things that could be done in there but overall, it shows great and is comfortable to ride in and sit in.
Wheels and tires: The Galaxie sits on 17 inch polished American Racing wheels - wrapped with Falken tires. It runs 215/55-R17 in the front (17x7) and 255/55-R17s in the back (17x8).
Trunk: The trunk holds the original bumper jack and spare tire setup, with original mount to hold it in its original position. Nice piece to find as these are usually gone.
Known issues: The only thing not mentioned above is, I noticed the car has what seems to be a very small exhaust leak at one of the manifolds, probably a manifold gasket, so you hear a little ticking when it’s running, but this is generally an easy fix. As with any old car, there’s a little something here or there that could be done. If you don’t want a show car, but you want a car to get in and enjoy, this is a great one with one of the most iconic designs of the 60s!
The owner: The owners are close friends, they are family to our family, and I’ve known them for a long time. They do not have to sell the car, but feel it’s a good time to sell down some of the collection of classics they have enjoyed owning for many years. He is very meticulous, and takes care of his things, but especially his cars. I’m assisting in selling the car, as I do this periodically for close friends as I want to help them and have done my share of doing this over the years. Payment: Payment can be made in cash, or wire transfer from your bank to his. A $2000 non refundable down payment is expected within 48 hours of the sale of the car, this can be done with a cashiers check from a reputable bank or postal money order, and sent via FedEx or other carrier of your choice. Full payment must be received before the car is released .
Shipping: We are glad to work with whomever you choose to ship the car, or you can come pick it up yourself. Either way, the buyer is responsible for shipping and all costs associated with it .
