Vehicle description
On March 29th, 1961 Mary LouiseSeayer, a mother and grandmother, drove her 1950 Buick Roadmaster convertible the 6.16 miles from her home in the Mar Vista neighborhood of Los Angeles to the posh Beverly Lincoln -Mercury dealership on Olympic Blvd. in Beverly Hills. It was on this datethat she traded in that Buick for a $100 credit and purchased a used 1960Lincoln Continental Mark V convertible for $4700 plus $188 tax. The carwas originally black with black and white tuxedo interior. During my ownershipI contacted one of the original family of Mary. He reported that Mary would drive that big Lincoln down to Las Vegas and all over Southern California. He said that, sadly, Marypassed away in 1974 and the car was sold. I do not know how many owners there havebeen 1974, but someone during that time chose to paint the car a stunningCherokee Red. I purchased the car in February 2002 and it has been keptin an air-cooled garage in Palm Springs ever since. I do not think thatthis car ever left California. The original black with gold license platesappears to be original from 1963 when they were issued by the DMV to replace the prior gold with black plates that would have been on the car in 1961. During my ownership over the last 17years I don"t think I put more than 100 miles a year on the car. There havebeen several repairs of items over the years, but no major overhauls except thefollowing: 1. Transmission was rebuilt in 2003 2. The top frame was rebuilt (I hada spare for extra parts) and a new top was installed in 2006 3. Starter was re-built in 2015 4. A new top reservoir and pump, newhoses and rams were installed in 2019 I want to be as honest as I can beabout this car. This is not a show car, but is a very presentable driver. Itdrives true and strong and the top works great. That includes the rear glasswindow, which will return from an open to a closed position automatically when the top downswitch is pressed. The car comes with the two fiberglass covers and a very rarealuminum strip to finish the open top. There are some small surface rustbubbles on the rocker panels. There were some on the doors, but have beenrepaired. The paint looks good and shines up nicely, however on close scrutinyone can see that there is some oxidization and checking. All the windows and lights work. Thetires are older and are Firestone Bias Ply. The chrome is good. Thespears on the front fenders have been replaced with beautifully re-chromedspears. There is some pitting on the door handles. Although this car camewith factory air conditioning, someone along the way had the compressor andhoses removed. Also the heater is disconnected and not working. Since I drovethe car in mild Palm Springs, mostly with the top down, I did not prioritizerestoring the heat and A/C. The Town & Country AM radio is also notworking. The vacuum parking brake release is not working. The vacuum trunk release in the glove box does work. The interior is in very goodcondition overall. There is some cracking visible on the white portion of theseats. There is some pitting on the chrome around the windshield and dashchrome. Please feel free to contact me withany specific questions. I will answer as honestly as I can. I am not aprofessional seller or a mechanic. I see these cars as moving works of art thatdeserve to be maintained and appreciated. I am selling this car because I am getting older and have too many cars. "Big Red", as I call it, is a real head turner. Drive it as-is or take it to the next level. A $1000 deposit is due within 24 hours after close of auction via paypal. The balance is within 7 days of close. Buyer may inspect the car prior to pick up and when satisfied, should present a cashiers check, purchased that day in the company of the seller or agent. Buyer is responsible for shipping. The car is in Palm Springs, California and can be viewed with some advance notice. I do reserve the right to sell thecar to the highest bidder and to end the auction early.
