Vehicle description

GAZ 21 2 series Cars from December 1958 to January 1962 were later called the “second series” (or “second edition”, or “shark"s mouth”). At the end of 1958 the car was modernized, mostly externally. The five-pointed star on the lining of a car radiator as a symbol of the Soviet state — caused a mixed reaction in Europe and did not contribute much to the growth of its export sales. The second series received an aggressive front end design - 16 grille slits resembled the open mouth of a shark. The shape of the front wings has changed in favor of increasing the wheel arches. The front direction indicators, taillights and bumpers were also changed. Gradual modernization did not stop. The most significant modernization of the Volga units and assemblies took place in 1960. The body was strengthened by the installation of special amplifiers. The car received modern wiring with a “minus” on the mass (before that there was a “plus” on the mass), removed the centralized lubrication of the chassis nodes, made some other changes and improvements. Some cars of the second edition, like the first, had a two-tone color from the factory. The Volga version of the second series won the Grand Prix at the World Expo"58 exhibition in Brussels.
