Vehicle description
A solid New Mexico car. The prior owner purchased this car in 1992, drove it home and let it sit until I bought it. It comes with the 1992 NM title. All the hard work has been done, you can drive it "as-is" or finish it. Original mileage unknown. PS/PB/power seat
I would call the car a driver/project car. I have driven it around my neighborhood and it runs, drives and stops well. I have too many cars so I decided to sell this one before I do more work to it and decide to keep it. I was going to leave it "sweaty" and just drive it the way it is but it is a great solid candidate for you to restore.
The engine may or may not be original to the car as it is painted blue, the 58-60 FE"s were painted black so somewhere in the past the original engine was removed, This is most likely the original which was rebuilt and re-installed or it could be an early 390, I cant be sure, all I know is the engine was rebuilt in the past, it starts right up , no smoking , knocks or leaks, it does have one slight lifter tap but after 28 years of sitting thats all I have found. The transmission shifts smoothly, no leaks or noises. The heater blower is 2 speed and works fine, the heater core does not leak. When I was installing the new carpeting I noticed the floor were in good condition. No noticeable lower body, fender, door bubbling or rust.
Below is a list of the work Ive done.
New Edelbrock aluminum manifold, new Edelbrock 4 bbl carb, new fuel pump, new fuel tank with new sending unit, fuel line was cleaned and flushed, new water pump, new electronic ignition and coil, new plugs and plug wires, HD cooling fan, new battery, new chrome 80 amp alternator with polished brackets, new engine wiring harness, new temp and oil sending units, chrome FE pentroof valve covers, installed a PCV system. All the original fasteners I replaced are now stainless steel allen heads, New upper/lower radiator hoses, new thermostat, the radiator was removed and flushed clean. New trunk kit, comes with new taillight gaskets and installation screws.
I removed the instrument panel and went through it, I all the wires are intact, no cuts or splices, all the gauges and lights work. Great sounding dual exhaust
I installed a good used dash pad, 1960 door panels with new handles, the window rollers are new, new black ACC carpeting. The original interior was dyed red/black. New trunk mounted radio antenna
I replaced the turn signal switch with an NOS one, the turn signal/brakes lights work fine and will cancel after turning. The only thing I didnt work on was the windshield wiper motor. The headliner was in surprisingly good condition. The tires are in very good condition and have rims that will accept disc brakes. The car is set up for an aftermarket radio and Sirius satellite. The car comes with rebuilt power steering control valve , slave cylinder and lines, also a new power brake booster. I dont know if the original PS stuff works as I did not hook it up. Also comes with new trunk lock assembly and keys. I rebuilt the power seat track and it now works just fine, comes complete with a spare power seat track and switch and many other spare parts.
The Bad: The passenger side window is cracked, the drivers" side vent window lock is broken, there is 25 years worth of tree sap on the rear window, there is a minor rust hole on the rear deck top about the size of a quarter, the door locks dont work. No outside rear view mirrors. The drivers door has a small crease at the front were somebody forced the door open, easily repaired. The original seats are dry from sitting in the NM sun for almost 30 years. They are serviceable but should be re-upholstered or replaced if you want to, I was going to install a set of used Thunderbird seats.
Buyer is responsible for shipping to his location. I can store the car for you for 90 days.
