Vehicle description

As rare as it gets.
389A Trophy 389 Special Ordered 1959 Pontiac Catalina Sedan 345 horsepower. The same as the NASCAR teams.
Bought new by a North Carolina moonshine runner after researching Pontiac and NASCAR. He told me he wanted a non-descript Pontiac with the same engine that Cotton Owens and Fireball Roberts used to win NASCAR.
Big questions first.
Does it have a numbers matching 345 horsepower, Tri-Power Pontiac engine? YES
Does it have X and O on the heads? YES
Does it have AN stamped on the block? YES
Does it have factory 15 inch wheels? YES
Does it have a 3.64 factory gear ratio? YES
I restored it in 2005-2006 in Vanguard Blue as it is the color that we found on the car. Body tag noted Concord Blue, a darker Blue.
Vehicle was in storage last 10 years and took some weather damage clearly shown in photos.
Bad part first: Bubbling up on bottom of doors. Trunk lip is rusted. Quarter window metal is rusted on one side. Headliner needs re-done.
Expensive restoration done in 2005-2006 including full interior restoration, full exterior restoration. I have $40K into this Super-Rare Pontiac. The original owner told me they called it Super Duty Pontiac.
Good news: Engine built by DCI Motorsports, Pontiac specialist, in Ohio. 389 now has a stroker kit and 440ci. 700R4 transmission installed in place of original trans (original trans is included.) Front disc brake kit from Master Power Brakes in Mooresville, NC, installed. 200 mph custom speedometer (looks like factory speedo)
This was a feature car for articles in High Performance Pontiac and Poncho Perfection magazines.
Current state: New owner will need to finish up the electrical for the transmission. Vehicle will start up and move on its own power. Engine has 0 miles on it.
This super rare Catalina is located between Akron and Youngstown Ohio. Ask any and all questions. If it doesn"t sell, I"ll finish it and take it to auction.
Here"s a story you should hear: Pontiac refused to build this car and told the original owner the engine was only for two door cars. He persisted and Pontiac built this Super Duty car for him.
