Vehicle description
For sale is my 1959 Ford Thunderbird. This is the second year of the second generation of TBird and is fondly known as the Square Bird. It has recently become a very desirable collectible as most modern cars owe a great debt to this car. It is the first car with bucket seats and console arrangement in a luxury car and created the personal luxury car segment which still exists today.
The first generation Thunderbird, which was really America"s first luxury sporting car, was a very slow seller and Ford, early in the planning processs, always planned for a four-seater which would appeal to a much broader segment of the buying public. The early Birds took three years to sell just 40,000 copies. This 2nd generation model certainly did sell well, outdoing the earlier version by hundreds of thousands of sales.
It was more comfortable, much more powerful, and could be used as a family car, which the two-seater could not. The styling set standards for years and is still very attractive with its husky, powerful look. It could be fittted with air conditioning, which this car has, and enjoyed the luxury of a roomy trunk. Ian Fleming, author of the James Bond books, considered it the greatest touring luxury car of all times, and traveled Europe in one for years.
This car is a Texas car as far back as I can trace and has a clear Texas title. The miles are exempt because of age, but this is a low mileage car and appears to have its original engine and transmission. The interior is excellent and original and the AC works. I have driven this car often and it has never once failed to start and run faithfully. It gets a great deal of attention at shows or just cruising and almost everybody knows someone who owned one or they owned one themselves. They always smile fondly at the car and often wish they had one. Well, here"s your chance to own a very nice 1959 Thunderbird with many options and speciallly the highly-desired factory air conditioning.
The original warranty was, I believe, one year, 12,000 miles and has long since expired. Thus, this car is sold as is and without warranty or guaranty of any kind. Having stated that, I would not hesitate to drive this car anywherers. It is dependable, beautiful, and will give pleasure for many years. I am only selling it as I just bought a convertible "59 Thunderbird, and I can"t afford both.
The car is stored indoors and can stay here until you can arrange shipping. I do require an immediate deposit on PayPal and you can pay for it with wire transfer, caahier"s or personal check - as long as they firmly clear before delivery.
I have 100% positive feedback and I want to keep it so I try very hard to represent my items honestly to the best of my ability. I shouldn"t have to point out that this is a 60 year old car, so there might well be issues I have not encountered nor identified. If thre are any, they are errors of ommision, not commission, as this is a very dependable and well-cared Souithern car with NO rust-through issues that I can find anywhere.
