Vehicle description
1958 NSU Prinz: If you are in the market for one of these to restore this is the one. The best, most solid one I have ever seen and we have had a good number of these little cars. The body is the most solid I have encountered, as good as the ones formerly in the Weiner museum. Paint is quite nice and the car is still the original color, black. If you like the flames that is good as they are real and well done, if not there will be some work needed to remove them. Interior was redone at some point in the past and is very nice although not as Spartan original as when new. Glass is all good, brakes work after a little clean-up and most if not all of the electrics(lights, etc) work well. Trunk and engine compartment very clean. Now the bad news. We bought this car to use as a fun/clown car for a childrens" Christmas fund raising effort with the understanding that it was a running, driving car. The sad truth is that I am of the opinion that no one has driven this car in years. The engine starts and runs reasonably well after a few hours of maintenance and the brakes all function after a little clean-up. After repairing the broken clutch cable we have discovered that the clutch is frozen which is irrelevant in that we can seldom get the car in gear anyway, bushings need replacement in the linkage. Fuel pump works and after cleaning the carburetor and changing oil we got it running only to find that the dynamo part of the starter/dynamo combination does not charge. That may be nothing more than a bad regulator but that part is both a solenoid and a regulator and is not only scarce but not cheap. Tires hold air but are very dry rotted/unsafe at any speed and the car will need a battery, I robbed it for the Fiat we replaced this car with. The car is currently titled/registered in VT in my name and will be sold with the current registration and a bill of sale, VT does not issue titles for cars of this vintage and this is an acceptable practice but check with your DMV to be sure. Demo rides obviously cannot be offered but you can sit in it and pretend. Shipping is the responsibility of the buyer and that will not happen until checks/wires have cleared, cash gleefully accepted. Always looking for vintage race car, aircraft or motorcycle. Thanks.
