Vehicle description

The early Karmann Ghia lowlight cars are beautiful handcrafted vehicles that have gained attention outside the Volkswagen world in recent years. Restoring these cars is for the true enthusiast who perhaps has already restored a Porsche 356 or Volkswagen Zwitter Beetle or Barndoor Bus and is looking for a challenge. Values, of course, on these car have continued to rise.
This Ghia was a show car and the beloved daily driver of a young lady back in the late 1980s/early 1990s. As life moved on and it was no longer driven, it was kept inside a dry garage, thus saving it for future generations of enthisiasts. I bought this car last year and collected a number of correct parts that will go with it and will aide in its restoration.
First of all, yes, this is a genuine 1958 Karmann Ghia Cabriolet. The chassis number stamped on the rear tunnel below the rear seat is 1989055 and the stamped body number behind the spare tire up front is 36488. Both the body and chassis match up as a late June/early July 1958 build. The car is titled using the chassis number as a 1958 Ghia. The Volkswagen AG tag up front is missing in action. There are other lowlight Ghias on the registry that closely correspond to these numbers.
An important thing to look for in a car like this Ghia, besides authenticity or completeness, is rust or major accident damage. Yes, it has some but it"s not that bad considering. The front nose was dented at one time and repaired. The floorpans were replaced with non stock pans back in the early 1990s. The rear convertible structure is in very good condition and the heater channels are solid. The chassis itself is in very good condition and would just need the pans replaced. The critical rear torsion areas all look good. There are too many details on the body and chassis condition to list this ad. However, I have detailed pictures and long walk around video of the undercarriage and all body areas at this link. .

This car still has the original doors (with almost no rust) with the factory Sekurit glass. At some point 30 plus years ago, the car was modernized with new seats, door panels, steering wheels, nerf bar bumpers, and stereo. Unfortunately, the original parts are gone. Here is a list of parts that I have gathered that are included with this car.
-1958 36 hp Volkswagen engine. This is the correct year engine for this car. Engine will need to be rebuilt. It is currently uninstalled but I can bolt it in for ease of transport -Convertible top frame and front latches for early Ghia convertible. These parts will need restoration but are very hard to find. -Lowback convertible seat frames. These will also need restoration -early "smoothie" 15 inch Volkswagen wheels (Porsche wheels shown in pics not included)
Please email me for any questions. I"ve collected and restored many air cooled Volkswagen and Porsche car over my lifetime. I"m a straight shooter and will answer all questions honestly. Again, please spend the time to look at the pictures and video. There are no surprises with this car and I"m excited for it to go to an enthusiast who will bring it back to its original beauty
