Vehicle description
1958 FORD B500 SHORT BUS
1958 ford shorty school bus. This is a nice classic bus. It"s 20" long total length, which is one of the shortest full size buses ever made. The bus is rust free and very straight. Clear title in my name. Runs nice and drives. These buses make great vintage rv"s/glampers. They also make good rods, tow rigs, push rigs, rat rods, hot rods, or just an original restoration. They are very good rigs for vending and food/coffee vending trucks or vending at car shows. I have seen them used to haul motorcycles to bike shows or motorcross. I can send a ton of pictures for other custom buses that have been built. This bus is in nice shape and a blank canvass for alot of creative ideas. I sold a "57 ford bus to a guy 5 years ago and he made a nice rod out of it with wheelchair accessible and driveability. Feel free to ask questions. I can also do something early on it if you"d like. Just message me. The last six pics are of similar buses that were built in different ways. Thanks
MECHANICAL
The bus has a 292 V8 with 2-barrel holley carburetor. It starts up and runs nice. It doesn"t knock or tick. It doesn"t smoke. The motor runs cool and doesn"t overheat. This has the 4-speed manual transmission. The transmission and clutch work nicely. I"ve driven the bus down my driveway enough to test all the gears but I haven"t had it out on the highway. The tires are old and probably ok for local type driving but would need replaced if you wanted it to drive far, just to be safe. The brakes work but should be checked out. The parking brake works also. Heater fan and lights work. The wipers acted like they wanted to work but need lubed up a bit. Overall the bus is very mechanically sound but will need some maintenance work to get it road worthy.
BODY
The body on this bus is exceptionally nice for a 1958. No rust. No dents. The glass is all in nice shape with exception of one front door glass that needs replaced. The roof is very straight and no holes in it. No dents in it either. Both doors operate as they should. The hood does too. No rust in the floor. I"ve been all over the bus underneath and there is no rust-through. The windows operate as they should, including the drivers window that rolls up/down. The bus was primered years ago and then one side sat in the sun and the primer fell/wore off over the years. The primer cleans off with lacquer thinner. I did some of it but it will take a few hours to do the passenger side. Some states have laws that make you paint a bus a different color than yellow, so you may want to check that out before trying to drive it yellow. No bondo on the bus. Very nice sheetmetal all around on the bus.
INTERIOR
The interior is real basic in this bus, because the seats have been removed. It had a camper conversion in it when I got it but the stuff was in bad shape so I tossed it all. It"s cheaper to ship them if they are empty inside also. The gauge/dash area is in good shape. All four interior lights work. No rust in the floor but some original floormat still needs cleaned out. The interior is a blank slate, ready for ideas. I can send many pics of finished buses for inspiration. Skooly is a good website too with good info and bus builds.
OVERALL
This is a real solid bus for a build. The shorties like this are getting really hard to find. They 20" was about the shortes they made. They did make a few 18" buses but they are getting nearly impossible to find. I can help arrange shipping if needed. I have experience shipping nationally and internationally. Thank you and happy bidding.
