SELLING AT NO RESERVE ESTATE AUCTION ! ONE OWNER 1958 EDSEL !
Offered for sale here is a One Owner, 1958 Edsel Pacer 4-Door Sedan in Powder Blue with Frost White Coves. It starts, runs and drives. The brakes need attention and the car is having trouble shifting into reverse. Car starts right away and goes into Drive, Neutral and back to Park. This was a special shifter in the center of the hub of the steering wheel and was a major engineering marvel in the fifties. It MAY BE a simple fix (many people in forums told me this reverse fix is simple). Tires are OK, but dated and should probably be replaced. This Edsel has been driven very little in the last 12 years. Needs brake work to drive safely :-) In 1958 Ruby Dewey of Independence, MO walked into Robertson Motor Company in Ottawa, KS and purchased this 1958 Edsel from the brand new Edsel dealer. She ordered her Edsel in Powder Blue with White Cove inserts. She ordered the Dial-Temp Heater/Defroster and also the Tri-Tone Paint with White Cove and White Roof.
She ordered her Pacer with the STANDARD Engine - the E-400. 361 cid (5.911 litre) 303 hp @4600 rpm 400 ft-lb Torque @2900 rpm 10.5:1 Compression Ratio 4.0469 x 3.500 Bore/Stroke 4-bbl Holley carburetor This Edsel retains it"s original drivetrain. It has never been modified.
Ruby ordered her new Edsel with the innovative new Teletouch Automatic, which is a one year ever production option.
This car contains some rust. It has its original paint. The fenders and quarter panels would need repair during restoration. There is other rust here and there, but the car is very restorable and a complete time capsule.
The 1958 Edsel advertising said it best - "Once you"ve seen it, you"ll never forget it. Once you"ve owned it, you"ll never want to change."
1958 Edsel Innovations (some) Floating speedometer that glows when a pre-set speed limit is exceeded Transmission locks in park until ignition key turned (new with Edsel - still used today) Top portion of seats slant forward to provide shoulder support Front-mounted distributor, coil, fuel pump, oil filter dipstick for easy access. Hood hinged in the front for safety (Although this somewhat limits access to the aforementioned distributor, etc!) The front seats were split 60/40 for better driver comfort. Promoted Self-Adjusting brakes as a safe and convenient method of compensating for normal brake lining wear. This mechanism has been used in drum brake systems ever since.
There are supposedly less than 6,000 surviving Edsels in the world. This is one that is surely extremely original and ready for a loving collector.
