Vehicle description

For sale, a one of one, specially designed 1957 Pontiac Star chief hardtop, in the fifties GM hired Janet Krebs a female designer to create a unique interior for this car. It was shown as a prototype for future cars as well as a showcase for what a factory custom design could be.
The car was exhibited throughout the country at National car shows. NY auto show among others.
Here is an opportunity to bid on this very rare and interesting 1957 Pontiac. To my knowledge GM only completed two vehicles designed by Jan Krebs. One was a Star chief pink convertible. The other was this car. A Black Star chief hardtop. The resting place of the pink convertible is unknown but this is the black hardtop!
The car was for sale in Massachusetts. I bought the car. It has not been on the road since 1970. I placed it dry storage since. Unfortunately the original motor is frozen, and I never drove it. For its age the car is in good condition. The floors are solid as is the trunk area. There is some rust on the rockers and door skins. As mentioned the motor a 347ci four barrel carburetor is frozen.
The car was originally black with a black spear. When I bought the car the black speak was painted green. I never changed it back to original, you can see the original black paint under the green spear. What makes this car so unique is the custom designed interior. The custom interior is all there; the black and patent leather and creative stitching. Very cool door panel design. On there is some wear in the fabric but it is all here and can be nicely restored. On the floor the original wool carpet is in pieces and has mostly been removed. It was put in garbage bags and come with the car. The leather lined glove box is in good condition. If accessory items where in the glove box when the car was built they were not there at the time of purchase. The custom design interior is fantastic, a woman"s touch can never be beat!
The car is loaded with power Windows, power steering, power seats, and power antenna, wonder bar radio. The chrome is in very good shape and will be easy to have re-chromed as is the stainless trim. The trunks original custom emblem is also a one of a kind trim piece. Which comes with the car.
This car is a piece of Pontiac history. Show casing women’s tasteful design and positive influence in the car industry. The last Pontiac was made in 2009. This car deserves to be restored and put in a high end collection or displayed in a museum. please look at the last photo I posted, showing the GM article about this car.
