This is Black Betty - Original Oldsmobile 1957 Super 88. All Steel.
- Approx. 2900 of this RARE 2- Door Sedan made.
Little back story - I purchased this car around 2013. Bought it from an older enthusiast in Michigan. He kept it mostly original mechanically. I received it and immediately wanted it road worthy and reliable to drive to local car shows. So much of the improvements listed below are from this period. - Shes not perfect. - You"re not buying a brand new car. These cars you have to DRIVE- new cars you RIDE - No seat belts ( i think i have them in with parts NEW ) - Floors were repairs prior to me. I haven"t done any body work. The car came black. - I"ve thought about adding 4 link air ride. never got around to it - Would look bad-Ass
- Original V-8 ROCKET still here, pictured. Motor rebuilt approx. 2-3 k Miles ago.( had 60k on odometer ) Motor was sent away to a speed shop who bored / honed & rebuilt. All new gaskets, pistons, Heads, rings etc. - Original Transmission was also sent out to an "old timer" locally who knew these transmissions. I am told they"re not the easiest to rebuild. After getting it back. I still didn"t like the drive- So we ended up having a rebuilt 80"s automatic transmission installed. ( from a Chevy Van I believe ) - 4 Barrel Manifold - NOT J-2 - Radiator removed, sent away for pressure test and leak test. Repaired as needed. - Power steering - COMPLETE rebuild by someone in mid west- ( forget his name ) recommend to be the " guy for old power Steering " - Flame Thrower Brand ignition system. / Electronic ignition. - Electric Wipers - Holley 4 Barrel Carb - Cd player w amp, Speakers and single 10" Base cab in trunk. - New gas tank & Mounts / straps. *Needs fuel sending unit installed. I believe i have it. or its installed, not hooked up. ( can"t remember ) - LED Halo Headlights. - LED interior lights. - Push Button Horn - New Tires - New Brakes and shocks - Battery ( newer ) - Repair Manual - HAVE ORIGINAL AC blower and compressor - will give too. Not installed in car at moment. - Drives glass and passenger glass were new, installer didn"t use safety glass. It cracked - I bought all NEW GLASS ( safety ) for doors. ( NOT INSTALLED - COMES WITH CAR ) Speedo not connected. Also have some felt and trim for doors. I have a few plastic toters full of misc parts and chrome trim i will throw in. I MAY also throw in rebuilt Original trans -
I might be missing some improvements. But this should give you the idea. I never drive the thing. I"ve thought about just keeping it, so in another 20 years - it will be super cool for a newer generation. But i"m running out of garages and someone deserves to have some fun with it!
Gear heads will have a blast. Make it your own - Tinker and give her a bath, change her fluids and tune her up.
