Vehicle description
This auction is for a 1956 Mercury Montclair 2 Door Hard Top Coupe. This car belongs to a very good friend of mine who was one of the best Ford, Lincoln Mercury mechanics in his day. He also owned his own custom exhaust business. He is now 83 years old and dealing with serious health issues. He does not own a computer but has asked me to bring the car to my shop and advertise it for him. He purchased the car a little over 10 years ago. Has always been garaged and maintained faithfully. The car was an original California car built in LA.The car has 62000 original miles. It is all original including the original paint. That is something that you don"t see very often on these vintage vehicles. It does have some paint touch ups, mostly on the drivers door in the black area done with small brushes touching up the scratches. You may be able to wet sand those areas to blend them better. I think the car will take a nice buff and polish to really bring it out. The body is absolutely rust free, under carriage the same. No patches or repairs of any type. Nice straight panels. All the stainless is in real decent shape. Bumper chrome is very presentable. The interior of the car is original but showing age. Headliner is still nice. Dash pad is perfect. Door panels are presentable. Really should have seat covers. The car has Power Brakes which has been completely gone through, no power steering but actually steers quite nicely. Has factory radio but was disconnected and a AM/FM Stereo Cassette was mounted under dash. Has a Power Seat but is not working. Car has factory Fender Skirts, Accessory Moldings, Front and Rear Bumper Guards and the nice Spinner Hubcaps. Has its original higher horsepower 312 V-8 with Carter 4 BBL,auto trans, 2 inch Dual Exhaust. I personally drove the car home and couldn"t believe how nice it handled and the responsiveness of the running gear. You feel like staying in the car and driving it all day. It goes that good! Has had a recent water pump, brand new fuel pump, as I mentioned brakes done and all new radial white wall tires. As far as I am concerned this is a survivor quality type car. You can drive and enjoy the car the way it is and upgrade the things that need to be done on the interior as you go along. All lights, turn signals, electrical s work. I do have a few of the California registrations and the last Maine registration. This will get you a title if you are a title state. Also will get all proper dealer transfer paperwork. You don"t see many of these Mercs anymore, especially an original black paint one. The 56 to me is the best looking Merc out there.
