1956 GMC 1/2 ton longbed Pickup Truck orig 316 Pontiac V8 Hydramatic trans Click Photos to Enlarge
Description I am selling this 1956 GMC 1/2 ton longbed since I have too many projects going. It is 123" wheelbase; the bed is 7" 6" long. CLEAR WYOMING TITLE in my name. It has the original 316 PONTIAC v8 and Hydramatic auto trans. It has 210 hp. I have no air cleaner. I have run the truck in front of my house on a jug of gas. NO BRAKES so only in 1st gear. It did shift to 2nd but could not go very fast. It has a lot of lower body rust as you can see in my 51 photos. Common rust for these trucks and all patch panels are available at a very reasonable cost. It needs some floor work (see pics), body mount braces at outer floors, lower hinge pockets, steps and inner/outer rear cab corners. It also needs lower door bottoms as they are rusted out. Maybe best to find doors w/ less rust or simply replace w/ new. I found rust in header inside the cab above the visors. Please see pics of this area. NO RUST THRU to outside of cab, only on the inside. I think they make the inner panel. Exhaust is gone but down pipes are there off Pontiac engine.
The front part of rear fenders are rusted thru where they meet the running boards. It needs new wood and strips in bed. I sanded hood down and put 2 coats of Duplicolor primer just for transporting. Hood has dings and needs block sanded to fill them. Some of the tabs on hood to mount mesh are broken but enough to hold it firmly in place. The front fenders are CHEVROLET and are drilled for Chevy spears and NOT the GMC Hydramatic letters. They have been patched on bottoms but need more work. The rear braces are intact w/ mount holes. The leading edge of the doors are bent up and are hanging up on the fenders. The driver wing window is broken off at lower rod so I have just taped a replacement in place. Pass wing is cracked. Windshield is cracked. . rest of glass is good. Needs new rear view mirror and new visors. The seat is real nice w/ only surface rust, no broken springs and no rust in lower pan (just needs re-done).
Of course tires are old and cracked but hold air for transport. The entire chrome bumper and upper moustache w/ running lights were taken off another truck. Someone put snaps in it to put on some vinyl winter cover but it all can be replated. Some snaps have broken off. No real pitting just some surface rust here and there. The 100 emblem and the mount bar it bolts to are BOTH aluminum reproductions. The surface is real rough from casting so it could be sanded down carefully and polished. It came w/ the truck so you "run what you brung". The big bumper bullets have some dings that could be fixed if you decide to replate them. Inside the radio was cut out so that area needs work. I have one ignition key but no key for doors. I am missing the back lower cab stainless on driver side that goes below the window. I think entire set can be purchased repro. I put in new headlight buckets but chrome trim bezels are original so some pits in them. Headlights NOT wired up yet. Tail lights are not wired and missing driver side.
The truck really needs totally restored, especially the doors and lower hinge areas so they can close properly. I do have fender GMC Hydramatic V8 emblems (see last pics). All the GMC parts are very expensive and NOT REPRODUCED, and this truck has them all present. You could even convert to a big window truck if you are ambitious. Remember there are very few GMC"s compared to Chevy so step and have a unique truck.
