Originally debuting in 1955, the Thunderbird was intended to be the flagship model for the Ford Motor Company. While the Thunderbird"s intended competition was Chevrolet"s Corvette, it was built to be a cool-looking boulevard cruiser. The 1956 Thunderbird sought to build on the early success of the "55 T-Bird, with several key improvements. One of the biggest consumer complaints in 1955 was the lack of trunk space. To remedy this issue in 1956, the Thunderbird was equipped with a rear-mounted Continental Kit. Another complaint about the "55 Thunderbirds was the lack a visibility with the hard top on so Ford added port holes to the hardtops to improve sight lines. Another major improvement for Ford in 1956 was the introduction of 12 volt electrical systems which improved reliability of the electrical systems and starting up. Although the 1955 and 1956 Baby Birds shared the same body, the "56 models a few stylistic upgrades were added as well including cowl vents on the fenders, wind wings on the windshield, and new routing for the dual exhaust out the rear of the car. Under the hood on this particular "56 Thunderbird is a 312 Cubic Inch V8 with a single 4 barrel carburetor that pushed out 215 horsepower in its day. The 312 V8 is hooked up to a 3 speed manual transmission which makes this baby bird an absolute blast to drive! Dual exhaust gives this 56 Thunderbird a nice throaty sound. The exterior on this 1956 Ford Thunderbird has been refinished in its original color, Colonial White, which is always a fantastic color on a classic T-Bird. The matching Port Hole Hard Top is also in wonderful condition having also benefited from a refinishing in Colonial White. The black Hartz Cloth Soft Top is in fantastic shape as well and provides a nice contrast with the overall color scheme of the car. Sitting on wide whitewall radial tires with full wheel covers, this "56 T-Bird has a fantastic look and an even better ride. The black and white vinyl bench seat interior has an unmistakable classy look! The seats and door panels appear to have been reupholstered in the original color scheme, white and black vinyl. The dash and steering wheel appear to be in their stock configuration and add to the overall look of the car. The dash is equipped with a 150 MPH speedometer, 5,000 RPM tachometer, fuel gauge, and temperature gauge, along with an upgraded Thunderbird-branded AM/FM/Cassette entertainment system and an aftermarket Autogage temperature gauge tucked neatly under the dash. Whether you"re looking for your very first classic car or your garage is full of these classic Baby Birds, this 1956 Ford Thunderbird Convertible would be an excellent choice. Give us a call today!
