Vehicle description
After eleven years of dedicated ownership, I’ve decided to sell my 1955 Studebaker President Speedster. My speedster is listed in the President Speedster Roster, and is one of approximately 250 roadworthy examples left. Much has been done to this car since I acquired it. Most recently, the 259CI President engine was overhauled, with all accessories and hoses replaced with new parts. Also, a stock 1955 Studebaker three speed with overdrive transmission assembly has been installed. This Speedster has been converted to a modern 12 volt, negative ground electrical system. She starts dependably under the hottest (or the coldest) weather conditions, with 12 volt halogen headlights providing outstanding night time illumination. Additionally, new wide whitewall radial tires have been installed, along with new front suspension bushings, shocks, and a recent front end alignment. The steel brake lines have all been replaced, as well as the flexible hoses, and all new brake “hard parts” have been installed. The dual exhaust system is recent and solid. The frame of this Speedster is smooth and solid, with the factory sub-floor support boxes intact. The two-tone paint is approximately ten years old and in very nice shape, with a few small blisters showing at the bottom right corner of the deck lid. The exterior stainless and pot metal parts are in nice condition. The bumpers, guards, and fog lamp housings all received a quality chrome re-plating job. The interior is in good condition, however, there is a repairable split (seam) in the driver’s seat cushion. New quality red cut pile carpeting, seat belts, and a new white vinyl headliner were installed over the last few years. Getting back to mechanical aspects, a NOS fuel tank, fuel sender, and steel fuel lines have been installed, as well as new fuel and water pumps. The NOS floor shifter is a top quality Hurst Syncro-Loc unit. Also, a new Edelbrock four barrel carb was installed last year. In closing, I’ll mention that if the purchaser of my Speedster wishes to return it to original factory condition, all the 6 volt parts, the DG 250 automatic transmission setup, the Carter WCFB carb, and the original “Pulsemotor” SW tachometer were saved and will be included with the car if desired. Over the years, my President Speedster has been a pleasure to drive and show. Folks always give a “thumbs up” to this very special car! If you’ve been considering buying a 1955 Studebaker President Speedster, this is truly a nice one!
