Vehicle description

Great start on a restoration of this highly collectible pickup. The Series 1 pickup trucks are fairly scare, because Chevy switched over to the Series 2 design about halfway through the 1955 production year, so some people think this is a 1954 model with the new rounded windshield. The 1955 Series 1 had a one year only grille, an open driveline with 3.90 gears.
Drivetrain on this truck is original 235 CI straight 6 with the four speed granny truck transmission. This is the desirable 5 window cab with the corner windows (sometimes called a pilot house cab).
Here is what has been done to this 55 Chevy. .It has a good quality new paint job and this truck was almost rust free, including the floors, which generally all rust. Brand new rear fenders, new wood bed and chrome strips, new windshield, new bumpers, New American Racing wheels with 245X75Rx16 radial tires, new exhaust system, new 6V battery, rebuilt generator, recently tuned and serviced. It is a numbers matching truck. Both the exterior and interior have been painted. Chevron signage is vinyl and is removable.
Here are the things that need to be done to fully restore this pickup truck. .The interior is all original with the exception of new paint. It needs a headliner and door panels. The gauges are original and the mileage is not accurate (quit working) and some of the gauges do not work (needs new fuel sending unit in tank), it has all the original wiring and suspension, all the door and window rubber is original and needs replaced, spotlight is not wired. The passenger side door glass is cracked and should be replaced. Turn signal does not work. Original running boards were used, but should be replaced (rough).
The truck is 63 years old and the engine smokes, but runs fairly well. It drives like a 63 year old 3/4 ton farm truck. No power steering or brakes. Lots of rattles and not good at freeway speeds. Very straight cab, fenders, bed and hood. Very little rust. Original Idaho truck.
Here is good news. These trucks are skyrocketing in value. Fully restored similar vintage pickup have sold at Barrett Jackson and Mecham auctions for over $50,000. Attached is the current NADA value for this truck as of 5/16/18. It shows the Average Retail at $23,400 and the High Retail at $58,050.
Go either way with this truck at this point. You could install a V8, A/T, convert to a shortbed and upgrade steering, suspension and brakes as a Restomod or stay original and restore to stock specs.
Selling this a far below Average Retail for about what I have in it. Currently have it advertised locally for $15,950 and reserve the right to sell locally. Found another car I want to buy, but need to sell this quickly! My loss, your gain:)
Check with your CPA, but by placing your company signage and logo on the truck and parking it in front of your business, a substantial amount of the purchase price may be an advertising deduction. This pickup would be ideal for a current Chevron station owner for advertising (As Is). On May-27-18 at 06:43:02 PDT, seller added the following information: Buy It Now price of $14,950 was just added Sunday morning. I have that much in the pickup. Auction ends Monday morning. Thanks! My price is almost $8,450 below current average retail book value. Somebody will get a good value, with lots of upside potential. I own a Chevron station in Idaho and painted it to match Chevron colors. It was a darker blue originally. See original color on firewall for engine pictures. It is ideal for a Chevron station owner, but some may prefer it all original, including wheels. The good news is that all the body work and rust issues are repaired and the body is straight. If preferred, going back to original color will be much easier now, due to the time and effort already invested. I may still have the original wheels, if wanted, but if not they are a common wheel that is available.
