CALIFORNIA BLACK PLATE 2nd Private Owner 1954 MERCURY MONTEREY CONVERTIBLE TECHNICAL INFORMATION:
This Mercury Monterey Convertible found it"s way to me from the Ramshead Collection Museum located in Sacramento, California. It was the Ramshead Collector car of the month. After a complete mechanical rebuild and an original repaint of the body and re-chrome of all the trim, this car was displayed in the Ramshead Museum for several years. The California "Black Plate" remains on the car. It came to us in beautiful condition with not a trace of rust or previous damage history. A true Museum Piece of Automotive history.
A new 1957 Ford Thunderbird engine was built and installed in this beauty and increased hp, verified by Wheeler dyno, to 278.5 hp. Dyno graphs available for inspection. See several photos of the dynamometer process in the photo selection. The mellow dual exhaust system has new headers treated with silver ceramic coating that will remain beautiful for the life of the car; does not rust or turn black. The 1954 Mercury Monterey was the first Mercury to introduce the Y Block configuration overhead valve engine and the three speed Mercomatic Transmission was recently overhauled by Hage and Kobany. This Mercury Monterey Convertible is a very rare American Classic; only 7293 examples were produced and this is the 2880th car built in Los Angeles. New Red German velour carpet and sound deadening pad were added. We added Mustang II type front suspension; Viking Performance coil over adjustable shocks, and front disc brakes. Also replaced rear brakes and shocks. All power equipment enjoyed getting new motors. Power equipment includes:
Power windows, Power steering, Power brakes, Power seats Power top Pertronix Electronic ignition system with Flame Thrower Coil was installed. We wired 6 Optima 6v batteries in parallel to produce 6.5v and lots of amps for starting power. A Genius trickle over night charger tops up the battery daily and for the off season. Charging system works well. New Diamond Back Radial wide white wall tires were added less than 100 miles ago: These Radial tires are larger than stock. Larger footprint Terrific traction. Handles the increased horsepower nicely. Check out the difference between Diamond Back and Coker radials. Diamond Backs hold the white sidewall for the life of the tire. Never turn yellow as do the Cokers. Rear 235/75R/15 Front 215/75R/15 New large BeCool aluminum radiator This car drives as if it were on rails. It drives and stops straight and smooth. Never in snow & no smoking. It can be used as a trophy grabbing show car or a bitchin every day driver. It has always been stored in heat controlled garages; has never experienced snow. It is stored in heated personal garage before first snowfall and doesn"t come out until spring. See much more tech and photos of the car at Hemmings www.hmn.com/2249611, Minneapolis Craig"s list or Classiccars.com, CC-1019845
