“The correct Clover Green paint has a great patina to it after all of these decades. The overall paint and trim are in good, original order. The truck’s body is straight and solid and its fresh green stake bed is clean and ready for work. The white front bumper fit tightly the body. This truck rolls on 7.50-20 bias-ply tires mounted on steel wheels. The wheels are in very good order while the tires are in good shape. Inside, there is a red bench seat that is in great shape, with floor mats below and a white headliner. A two-spoke steering wheel frames the then-modern gauge layout. The dash is in good shape while the inner doors are in good, original order but the fuel gauge and speedometer are inoperable. A floor-mounted shifter completes the interior.”

• Final model year for 2R series trucks • Model 2R16A-71 with 14,000 GVWR • One of 30,500 1 ½-ton models made between 1949 and 1953 • 246 CID Power-Plus straight six-cylinder engine (code 4R-101) • Three-speed manual transmission with a Dana 60 rear end • Correct Clover Green Code P2399 exterior with fresh stake bed body • Self-centering, four-wheel drum brakes
The Studebaker 2R series trucks were actually one of the first new redesigned American trucks offered after WWII. When they first came out, they were very fresh and modern. But they were still intended to just be true work trucks and were used on work projects all over the world. The design was pretty innovative for the time.
The wide hood with blended fenders and integral cab steps set the trend for all the trucks to follow back in ’49. Like with pretty much everything Studebaker did, they broke new ground with the design of this series truck for other to copy and follow.
This particular 1953 Studebaker 1 ½-ton Model 2R16A-71 should keep you and some helpers busy for a while. The local truck spent part of its past life as a farm-to-market truck in southern Missouri, as its livery demonstrates.
The correct Clover Green paint has a great patina to it after all of these decades. The overall paint and trim are in good, original order. Under the hood is Studebaker’s 246 CID Power-Plus inline six-cylinder engine (code 4R-101). A three-speed manual transmission is mated to the motor and out back is a Dana 60 rear end. This truck’s GVWR is 14,000 pounds.
