Vehicle description
1952 GMC 454-30V 2.5 Ton Flatbed Truck Ex Navy
6cyl engine, 5speed manual transmission, 2 speed rear, Manual Steering, Power brakes, 19500 GVW rating. Truck has been converted to 12 volts. The truck runs and drives around the farm but is not a driver. Needs some work, brakes need work, takes about 6 pumps to get good pressure. Odometer reads 81K but I don"t know if it has turned over or not. I have a clean Oregon Title in hand.
This truck started life in the Navy, there is a brass ID plate affixed to the driver side kick panel that is shown in the photos. The Model is a 454-30V and the serial number is 4061, military/navy trucks did not originally come with titles so when this was switched over to civilian use, the vin number was created by combining the model and serial number.
The truck starts up and runs good, transmission shifts well. It will need some electrical work, ignition is currently on a toggle switch. The carb will need rebuilt, started running rich, most likely a stuck float or leaky needle and seat.
There are no known major rust issues. The floor boards need some work, have been patched but not the best job. There is a rust hole in the cab in front of the driver side door. The rear cab corners look to have some bondo work, not sure if it is covering dents or rust. Also looks to be bondo work in front of the passenger door, not sure if it is covering rust or a dent. The truck has been painted in the past but it was a low quality farm job with poor masking and plenty of runs in the paint.
The brakes need work, most likely bleeding. The mastery cylinder was empty when I got to the truck, I filled it up and eventually got some feeling to the brakes. They will work after pumping them several times. The in-cab tank has been disconnected and it is running off the saddle tank. There is a coolant leak on the lower radiator hose. The seat needs to be redone, all the fabric/ foam is gone, the box spring is a little rusty but the frame is solid. Have not tested out any of the lights or 2 speed rear end. Tires are old and will need to be replaced if you plan on driving it on the road. They hold air and do not go flat.
Note, I do have the glass lens for the front driver marker light
