Vehicle description
FF001 is the first and original Flyer designed and built by Chris Runge. The body is entirely hand formed aluminum, it was acid etched and then shot in silver paint with clear coat. Inner paneling is all lightweight aluminum. The car sits on a mid-engine center seat (monoposto) Mild Steel Ladder Frame chassis. The car weighed in at 1010LBS on the scales without canopy (has since added apx 20lbs in weight).
It utilizes a 4 Speed transaxle and currently has a very low usage (under 4 hours road use) VW 1500 single port engine and VW Drum Brakes. It has 12V charging system, racing Fuel cell, Fire Suppression System and full cockpit safety cage with roll hoop. The tires are new Michelin"s with under 30 miles. Driver fitment as it sits would be in the 5"8"-6" range. Runs and drives incredibly, you won"t find anything else like it.
Price with VW running gear is $75,000USD OBO. There is an optional Porsche 356 Engine and Porsche Drum brakes that can be installed for total sale price of $95,000USD. The car has MSO and full build sheet available. Registration rules vary in many different states.
This car has been featured in numerous books, magazines, websites and video media. Some of these include, Octane Magazine, Porsche 356 Registry, Gestalten Publishings "Drive", Fox News, the subject for French Artist Antoine Gaslais and many more. Copies will go with the vehicle to new owner.
Please note that this is the FIRST in the series of RUNGE builds. Examples of current work are shown below as well.
