Vehicle description

Losing my garage space, so I"m having to offer my very solid, original 1950 Plymouth P-20 Special Deluxe sedan for sale. Built in the San Leandro Ca. plant and purchased new in Oakland in 1950. Always a California car, with no rust and no history of accidents or damage. The second owner lived in San Jose and purchased it about 10 years ago. He had the original 217 C.I. inline flathead 6 engine rebuilt with hardened valve seats, and replaced the transmission with a freshly rebuilt 1952 Plymouth 3 speed with Borg Warner R-10 overdrive. The rear axle is the original Mopar 3.91 unit. It starts right up, idles smoothly with no smoke or knocks and has good compression. The steering is tight with no play, and the original style drum brakes work as they should. The emergency brake needs to be re-lined. I have new pads for it, but haven"t installed them (it is the driveshaft clamp type). The clutch is excellent with no slip or chatter. Shifts smoothly and easily through the gears, including overdrive. It handles excellent (for a 1950"s car anyway!) and is a pleasure to drive. The overdrive makes a huge difference in these cars, giving you an effective rear axle ratio of 2.73 in 3rd over, allowing you to cruise at 70 mph at about 2300 rpm., which is very comfortable for these flathead Mopar"s. . .redline is 3600 rpm. Since buying it a few years ago I"ve only had to do routine maintenance, including tuneups, replacing shocks, re-packing wheel bearings etc. The only major upgrade I made was to have the original wheels professionally rebarreled, widened and powder coated by The Wheelsmith in Corona, Ca. I then mounted brand new Coker bias look radial tires, which give it the right stance and look while allowing radial reliability and handling. I installed small dog dish Plymouth hubcaps on it just because I like the look, but it comes with the original "Deluxe" full chrome wheelcovers as well. Needs nothing to be a daily driver. I drive it frequently, and it never lets me down.
The sheet metal is solid, with no rust in the rockers, doors, trunk or floorpan. The driver"s side access panel (removable to access the master cylinder) was replaced by the second owner. The original door panels are rough, with stains and tears. I have new, polyformed door panels that are pre-cut and ready to upholster and install. The headliner is new and in excellent shape (the streaks in the photos were a weird reflection from the sun). The original seat fabric was in rough shape and I covered them in grey mohair. They look decent but don"t match the original brown striped upholstery. If I were to keep it I"d have them professionally redone along with the door panels to better match the headliner. The dash woodgrain is in decent shape for its age, and the steering wheel is in very good shape. All of the original glass is intact with no cracks or chips. The door weatherstrip is new, and I installed new shoulder seat belts for safety. All of the lights work, including turn signals added by the original owner many years ago. All of the gauges work as they should, as do the two speed wipers.
The title is clear and it is registered with the correct Y.O.M California plates. I have over 8k in it (1000 in wheels & tires alone) and will consider all reasonable offers. Any questions, please don"t hesitate to ask!
