Vehicle description
1949 Austin A40 Pickup Left hand drive (export model) Very Very Rare * *NO RESERVE* *
Body: The body is in great shape for an unrestored 1949 truck. There is almost no rust, just a small spot on each rocker that is easily repairable, no body parts need replacement. The cab corners, front fenders and floors are all rust free. The box comes from the factory as a ribbed steel shell covered with aluminum panels, the rear fenders are aluminum as well, the deck is wood. The body is not banged up but the front fenders have some stress cracks. the front bumper is missing but the original rear bumper (impossible to find) is in place. The front bumper is the same as the sedan and wagon and easy to come by. The frame is very good. The patina is perfect for a rat rod. The original colour was a darker blue.
Interior: The seat, floor covers, ash tray and glove box door are included. The fabric parts need to be reupholstered but nothing is missing. The aluminum banjo steering wheel is in place with the turn signal switch in the centre of the steering wheel.
Mechanical: I have made no attempt to start the car. It rolls and steers but does not have brakes. The engine appears to be complete but the radiator needs to be replaced. MGB front end parts fit these trucks if you want disc brakes and I have a dual carb1500CC engine and transmission from a 1959 MGA that is included with this auction. The engine will bolt in without modification. The exhaust system needs to be replaced. The wheels on the Austin are from a Mustang II and will be replaced with a set of 5 factory correct 17" wheels.
I bought the Austin with plans of putting a V6 in it, but leaving the exterior as it is now. I have a large collection of restored and project cars and I"m getting old enough that I"ve decided to part with the unrestored cars and start to enjoy the finished ones while there is still time. As a result the Austin is for sale just as I bought it. These are almost impossible to find (I looked for 6 years to find a good one) as only a small number were exported to North America. Finding an original that has not been messed with and is not a rust bucket is a dream come true. The truck is 95% complete. If your looking for an exceptional project to restore or make into a resto-mod, where you won"t go crazy trying to find parts or spend months and a fortune dealing with rust, then this may be the right one for you. I am selling the truck unreserved, with a low starting bid, because I"m serious about selling it. Please, if your biding be serious as well, if your not certain or may not have the money please pass on it. The truck is located near Kelowna, British Columbia, Canada and is sold on a bill of sale. Please see below for shipping information. Payment is by bank to bank wire transfer for the safety of the buyer and seller. You can send any questions you have through Ebay messaging or call me directly at (250) 515-1110.
Shipping:
