Vehicle description
1948 Overland Willys Jeepster turns heads . Everyone smiles and waves as I drive by in them in this antique convertible made for fun!
This 1948 Willys-Overland Jeepster is finished in original color yellow with black accents over tan vinyl, and it is powered by a I6 148ci Lightning inline-six paired with a three-speed manual transmission. Features include a black canvas soft top, chrome bumpers, 15″ black powder-coated steal wheels, and a cassette radio. Major maintenance in September 2020 is said to have included a carburetor rebuild, paint, service of the brakes, and refurbishment of the fuel tank. Maintenance by current owner in 2021 includes a full valve train overhaul with three angle chamfers, installation of a 6 volt electric fuel pump, starter rebuild, new clutch, water pump and a new Carburetor. This Jeepster is now offered with an owner’s manual, a parts list, service manual, two keys, a soft top boot, newer hub caps and a clean Florida title in the seller’s name.
The truck was refinished in 1993 in yellow with black accenting around the passenger compartment, and according to the previous owner the bumpers were later re-chromed. The black canvas top features a plastic rear window and is stowed beneath a matching boot when not in use. Close-up photos of the body and trim are provided in the image gallery below.
Steel 15″ wheels were powder-coated in black by the previous owner, and wear chrome hubcaps and Firestone wide-whitewall tires. A matching spare is mounted at the rear. The brakes were serviced in 2020 by previous owner, and a spare set of Willys-logo hubcaps are included in the sale and shown in the gallery below.
The interior features twin bench seats trimmed in tan vinyl along with matching door inserts, metal surfaces painted to match the body, and a black carpet kit. A push-button radio is mounted ahead of the two-spoke steering wheel, while a newer Delco radio-cassette player is installed into the glovebox and connected to a floor-mounted Sanyo speaker. Some small Scratches are noted on the seat upholstery.
Centrally mounted instrumentation consists of an 80-mph speedometer and gauges for fuel level, oil pressure, amperage, and coolant temperature. The five-digit odometer shows 6k miles, and the seller states that he has driven approximately 1k miles. The speedometer and odometer do not work, and total mileage is unknown. The seller will supply a replacement speedometer cable.
The replacement 148ci ‘Lightning’ inline-six was installed during prior ownership and is fitted with a Kaiser Supersonic head, and power is sent to the rear wheels through a three-speed column-shift manual transmission. Maintenance in September 2020 reportedly included cleaning of the fuel tank and a rebuild of the carburetor. Maintenance by current owner in 2021 includes a full valve train overhauls with three angle chamfers, installation of a 6 volt electric fuel pump, rebuilt starter, and a new Carburetor.
Serial number 4-63-72408 is visible on a tag located under the edge of the cowl beneath the glove box door. A Florida DMV sticker on the truck shows an assigned identification number of N52494, which is the number listed as the VIN on the title.
The rear differential is thought to have been replaced during prior ownership, and the seller notes that the floors have been patched. Additional images of the underside can be viewed in the gallery below.
