Vehicle description

This is a relist. Please make sure you have the funds to buy before you bid. Offered for sale is a 1948 REO truck. This incredibly original truck was purchased new by the Pittsburg Fire Department, and was purchased to replace an aging truck that had been involved it an accident. Its role was to carry a 22’ water tower that had come from the earlier damaged truck. The tower, dating back from 1902, was placed on the REO and really did not see much service, and was removed from service in 1972. The truck has been in and out of storage and in several fire apparatus collections since then. The tower has recently been removed, so it can receive a proper restoration, and be returned to its original 1902 horse drawn configuration. The REO’s odometer only shows 691 miles and yes, it does work. Fire apparatus rarely see many miles, and this certainly holds true in this case as well. The low mileage can be easily seen based on the lack of wear on the pedals. This REO is in excellent original shape, but has had a respray carried out, around 25 years ago. The truck runs and drives well. Has new battery, oil service, hoses, etc. The truck fires up quickly and runs very smooth with excellent oil pressure, and runs cool. This could very well be the lowest mileage REO truck in the world! The tires will need replacing, but otherwise could be driven anywhere. This would make the perfect truck for a stake body, orchard truck, or car hauler. We also have the original REO build card for this truck! Equipped with the REO Gold Crown straight 6 engine. The truck is sold on a bill of sale, as the original Pennsylvania registration was lost long ago. More pictures are available upon request. Call with questions 7129444900.
