Vehicle description

Dodge Other Pickups .
1948 Dodge Truck
I bought the truck a few years ago from an estate/widow in Wisconsin. Of course she did not know much about it as it belonged to her husband.
It has a clear Illinois title in my name.
I also use a local independent mechanic shop to do most of my mechanical work. They have been in business for years and work on anything. I am 74 and have a degree in Automotive and Diesel mechanics from Nashville Auto Diesel which is now Lincoln Tech. But, I do not have a lift or I find some things too hard for me to do anymore.
The truck is a 1948 B-1-B cab. Actually Dodge made two different cabs in 1948 and this is the later one that was made from 1948 to about 1956. This one also has the optional cab corner windows that were a $20 option in 1948. But believe it or not some buyers chose not to purchase them.
The truck has a 318 engine with a 727 auto Torque Flite behind it. The engine numbers say it is a 1972. That engine has an Edelbrock intake manifold and a 4 barrel. Runs very good and starts exceptionally easy. I do keep it on a battery tender or use my battery cut out.
The truck has a torsion bar front clip (frame). Probably from the same 1972 Dodge car or truck the engine came out of. The steering column seems to be the same era.
When we got it here we changed all fluids. Since that time I have added.
New Alternator New Steering gear….it has power steering but the old one seemed loose New Interstate battery with battery cut out Fixed the turn signals Fixed the high beam indicator Aligned the front end Two new tires on the front end New Steering wheel Added water cut off in heater hose Replaced the driver"s door window……….it was cracked Replaced the coolant and new thermostat
Recently we found a dent in the Auto Trans pan where it looked like someone tried to pry the pan off with a screwdriver or chisel causing a trans fluid to leak. It was repaired and at the same time we did a trans filter and fluid change. As you can see from the pictures the truck has side pipes that are the mufflers. It has a real nice sound but not too loud.
It has 1972 Chevy step side rear fenders that surprisingly look good on the truck. Someone told me the tail lights were Mazada. I don’t know for sure.
The bumpers look to be off about a 1950 Chevy car.
It has wooden running boards and wood racks on the bed. Both are solid but could use a new coat of clear marine finish.
It has a sunroof that I have never opened.
The seat is about a 60s era Cadillac leather power seat but the power does not work. The wiring is there but the motor does not work. It folds forward (each half) to reveal a compartment to hold things where the original fuel tank was.
The dash is a piece of aluminum the builders screwed over the top of the original dash.
All gauges except the Amp gauge work and I have a new set of gauges (less the speedo) that I bought off ebay to get a new Amp gauge. I have not installed it yet.
The wipers also work and are electric.
The heater is not stock but does work.
The only rust I know of on the truck are some bubbles on the lower portion of the passenger door. The bottom of the passenger door (underneath) is solid. It is hard to see and especially hard to see in any pictures.
The bed is some sort of wood with metal strips on it. As you can see from Pics the fuel filler is in the center rear of the bed. The lid is electric and operated from a switch on the ceiling console in the cab.
The tailgate has the chains moved to the inside with seat belt latches to hold the tailgate closed. It’s an old hot rodder trick.
It also has a cassette player and a CB with antennas . . . but I never use them so I don"t know how they work.
Again it is a driver and a street rod. Good to go to cruise-ins with.
The only thing I think it needs is maybe a new radiator core. But it does not leak.
I tried to tell everything but I know I probably forgot something…. .please ask.
For some reason it won"t let me edit the deposit amount but. .
