Vehicle description
A beautifully restored 1948 DeSoto S-11 Suburban, one that has been restored to original condition without modifications or deviations from the original, is offered for sale.
This DeSoto has undergone a slow, detailed and thorough restoration in the last few years. Below is the story in words and photographs. Continue to the website, www.desotosuburban.com for over 100 photos including the finished car with over 100 photos, prior to restoration HISTORY, during restoration process RESTORATION.
We began with a very solid original "48 DeSoto that has been cared for throughout it"s 71 year life and a completely rust free life confirmed by the photographs. Tires are good rollers so that buyer can choose wide white walls or black walls as he sees fit. A car of this quality is only possible by beginning with an excellent original. It is an excellent restoration for a car to be driven and enjoyed.
The careful and deliberate restoration involved many months of research. Finding original parts revealed how rare this car is. . . parts, especially cosmetic parts, are scarce. Finding original materials such as the original red oak used for the roof rack and to make the floor in the trunk/cargo area was only possible because enough of the original wood survived. Finding brushes for the starter was easy, but we had to find a source for the original bearing. Finding the correct gauge of the battery cables and having them custom made took time. Finding identically reproduced vinyl was difficult. Locating the English wilton style carpet in an exact match was a triumph. Everything took time. Sometimes the Suburban sat for months awaiting some small item. You can"t rush a restoration like this. But the results confirm the care and detail of the process.
Let the photographs tell the story. Go to www.desotosuburban.com. (PS: be sure and see ALL the photos and click on "SHOW MORE" in the website where indicated to reveal more photos)
