Vehicle description
1948 Crosley CC Station Wagon
I have owned this car for about 5 years after purchasing it from the2 nd Owner who had the car since 1955 (I still have a copy of the1955 title). It currently has a clean Illinois title.
My intent when purchased was to finish the restoration that had already started but it’s time to move into other projects and allow someone else to put the final touches on the car and get it back into the Crosley scene.
During my ownership, I have driven it quite a bit and it runs and drives great and with a new clutch (see below) , it can drive on the road right away. I do want to be as detained about the car as possible but if there is something more you want to know, please contact me.
Here are the details:
The car has always been stored indoors since 1955. The previous owner did and I have as well. My garage is heated and cooled. My point is that it has very little rust under the car .
It appears to have the original engine and is fitted with an aluminum racing valve cover.
It has a 4-speed transmission (not completely sure of the make and model of transmission) to allow for slightly higher top speed needed to feel comfortable on the roads today. I have had it up to 50 miles and hour and could go faster.
Uniquely the car is also fitted with what appears to be an original aftermarket Italmeccanica Supercharger. but it doesn’t add much to the overall performance of the car.
The car runs and drives well with no issues except it now needs a clutch. It had been slipping a little since I have had the car and it has finally given out. The new owner w ill need one prior to driving on the road. I do have a video of the car running. If you are interested, contact me and I can forward it.
The paint job is very presentable but has a few scratches and chips that were there when I purchased the car. From 5 feet away, the car looks great.
Tires are showing some very minor dry rot. If you plan to drive it consistently and for a little distance, the tires probably should be replaced.
The car has been converted to a 12-volt system and has a new ignition coil, starter solenoid and diehard battery. All lights and original OEM accessory turn signals work.
Windshield and rear sliding side windows have no cracks but have some minor scratches. The d river side and passenger side door glass is missing (I do have 1 of the pieces but I am missing the other 3)
The car has no interior except the seats in the pictures. The vinyl covered cardboard door, side, rear and headliner panels are needed to complete as well as the rubber floor mat for the entire floor of the car.
The front Crosley emblem and hood ornament are missing.
Improvements I have made to the car since I have Owner it are:
New stainless steel gas tank and sending unit from Service Motors (well know Crosley parts supplier
New exhaust (including muffler) from Service Motors.
Rebuilt the original starter and installed a new ignition coil, starter solenoid and battery
New "Woodie" decals from Service Motors have been professionally installed on the sides and rear of the car
Please contact me with any additional questions. It really is a solid car and with the replacement clutch done, could be enjoyed immediately. Most of the missing interior parts are available through Service Motors and could be installed over a weekend if they were all in hand and you are pretty handy. I would be happy to answer any additional questions you may have. The car resides in Naperville, Illinois. If you would like to inspect the car in person, please contract me to coordinate.
Buyer coordinates and pays for shipping but I am willing to assist by being present when the car is picked up.
I will accept most electronic payment methods, cash on pickup, money order or cashier"s check. Payment due from winning bidder no later than 7 days after auction end and a $500 deposit is due within 24 hours of auction end.
Thank you and happy bidding.
