Vehicle description

Vehicle Details Plymouth Other. 1947 Plymouth Special DeluxeThis is a 1947 Plymouth Special Deluxe P15 2dr Sedan. I have owned this vehicle for over 10 years but has only been driven a few times a year locally. I am under the impression that the mileage is correct, not turned over but I can’t guarantee it. It was restored around 1985 as a father and son project. The car is actually in pretty nice shape although the paint does show some micro blisters when looking close up. The body is in good shape, no rust issues on the body, no rust bubbles, rockers look good, bottom of the doors are clean, fenders are nice. I think I still have the original stainless trim for the bottom of each side that will need restoration but will have to dig around for them. The body exterior paint is kind of a fuchsia color and interior is close to the original burgundy. There are some scratches and small chips, mostly a small portion on the passenger side rear fender but no dents. Apparently the car was backed into a garage and lightly scraped along a ladder laying down. They used fingernail polish to touch up the paint but not a great job. I was going to resand the paint and use the original burgundy color matching the interior paint. It does run and drive, the engine runs great, usually starts right up and idles nicely. It does have the Plymouth 218ci straight 6 with all cylinder compression similar and within tolerances. The carburetor was replaced a couple of years ago. It has a 3 speed on the column and has the overdrive unit mounted on the transmission but not hooked up. The complete brake system (drums turned, shoes replaced, new wheel cylinders) was rebuilt but needs to be correctly adjusted. It is possible that the master cylinder needs to be replaced because the brakes feel a little spongy and need to be pumped once for good contact. The undercarriage and frame appear to be in good shape and seems to have been undercoated in the past. The frame is in good shape, no signs of any weakness or rust issues. All the factory body mounts are solid. The kingpins were replaced a few years ago. The trunk area is all carpeted and is glued in. The bumpers could stand to be rechromed but look decent. It also had a new muffler replaced a few years ago.The interior was restored in 1985 and looks very nice for its age. The seats have no rips, door panels are in very nice shape, the dash area is original and even has the factory radio. I can get it to buzz from time to time but it is not working. I do have a rebuilt original replacement radio that will go with the sale. The headliner has developed some drooping, material is good but will need to be tightened. All of the gauges work and oil pressure reads 40-45lbs at an idle, which is great. The heater blower is working, windshield wipers work (except washer) and the emergency brake works. The windows roll up and down but occasionally the passenger side window binds on the track if rolled completely down. The door latches sometimes won’t completely latch and probably need a little lubrication to slide easier. Overall it has nice clean interior. On these vintage cars the VIN and Title Vin Number matches the engine number. When I registered it, the State of Oregon chose to use Oregon VIN identification but the car is still registered as a 1947 and original VIN is on the inner drivers door jam and engine.Overall it is a very nice classic car daily driver that you can enjoy driving or take to parades and such. Overall, mechanically it seems to be in good shape. If you want a car that you can drive around town, go to cruisins and just enjoy as you go, then this would make a great car. It is NOT A TRAILER QUEEN but is a nice time capsule. A 1947 Plymouth 2dr Sedan is a rarer model, most were 4dr suicide or coupes. I would not be afraid to drive it most anywhere. This vehicle is being sold as is, where is with no warranty, expressed written or implied.
