Vehicle description

About this vehicle This 1947 Ford Pickup is a restored vehicle. The owner has had it for 5+ years. The vehicle runs great and is mainly used for car shows. Seller"s Notes This truck is ready to go anywhere. Vehicle Details Please do not bid on this vehicle unless you have the money available to pay for it. I am moving and must sell. And this truck will sell because I put a low reserve on it. If you ever wanted to buy a Marmon Herrington truck, this is one of the rarest of them all. In 1947 the 1/2 ton pickup was called a 'Commercial '. And all Commercials had a 114 inch wheelbase. And if you ordered a Marmon Herrington truck, Ford shipped the new truck to Marmon Herrington where they added the four wheel drive components. You could order the Marmon Herrington conversion for any size Ford truck. There are only a handful of running 1947 Marmon Herrington Commercials left in the world. I found this rare truck in Dayton, Nevada almost ten years ago, so it had almost zero rust. The cab, bed, fenders, hood, front body parts and grill are all Ford originals; no repro parts or fiberglass. I painted the truck its original color Ford Vermillion Red (PPG paint code 70358). The five original wagon wheels were blasted and powder coated. The original hubcaps are in very nice shape. The 7.00-15 military tires are new. This truck even has the original factory made brush guard protecting the front grill. The flathead engine was completely rebuilt with all new parts, including new plugs, plug wires, coil, cap, and an electronic ignition (never have to worry about points again). New belts, waterpumps, rebuilt radiator, starter and generator. New clutch disk and pressure plate. Rebuilt carburetor and NOS oil bath air cleaner. The engine starts up easily and runs perfect and strong anytime. New wiring throughout, NOS battery tray, NOS front and both rear emergency brake cables, new wheel cylinders, master cylinder, brake shoes and brake lines. I even found a NOS factory Ford ignition resistor (installed up under the dash. New 6 volt battery and voltage regulator. New exhaust system, three new driveshafts, all with new u-joints. All glass is perfect with no cracks or chips, with new weather stripping. The door windows roll up and down easily with new felt channels and rattle felts. The frame is perfect, no cracks or repairs. And here I discovered another reason why this particular truck is so rare. Ford had riveted a 1/4 inch thick plate on the outside of the frame in order to stiffen the frame and double its weight capacity to one ton. I don't know if this was done to all Marmon Herrington Commercials, or only to this truck as a special order upgrade. You can tell that the plate was added to the frame at the factory as it is riveted on with the same giant rivets used by Ford for all the frame components. And, the VIN is 799Y1662259, which denotes a one ton capacity. This may be the only 1947 Marmon Herrington Commercial (114 inch wheelbase) with a factory rating of one ton. The Marmon Herrington components were well maintained and in excellent condition, including the special brake drums. The transfer case is an all wheel design, unlike later models with 2WD/4WD options. My guess is that this truck began service as a special order fire department truck (chief's truck) that could carry equipment in the Nevada back country. The Marmon Herrington plate number matches the VIN stamped on the frame. Items needing attention; temperature gauge does not work, six inch rip in the top seam of seat stitched together by me, ignition switch damaged (I have a secret flip switch hidden under the dash) and I finally found an original working horn but have not installed it. Clean California title in my name. Truck cover and licence plate and Ford manuals included. And please, do not bid unless you can buy. Call916 eight6zeronine6ninezero with any questions.
