Vehicle description
1940 Packard 110. Purchased from original family. Almost all registrations back to 1940. Car passed from Grandfather to Father and then to son. Son had no interest in the car when inheriting it in 1983 so it was literally parked in the barn, where it sat until I purchased it 4 years ago. I was initially able to get it running with new ignition parts and fuel fed from a bottle but it needed to be thoroughly gone through. I stored the car until this year when I finally had time to work on it. I removed the fuel tank and sent it to be cleaned and sealed. I repaired the fuel sender and replaced the hoses and is now re-installed. I also replaced the fuel pump, water pump, battery and rebuilt the entire braking system. Now it starts right up and runs silently, all fluids have been serviced and the chassis lubed and inspected. The 2 front tires have been replaced with radial tires but the rears are older Bias ply"s. Amazingly everything works, wipers, horn, lights, heater, interior lights, etc. It runs, drives, shifts, and stops well, although I have only driven locally to prove out it"s systems. The paint is mostly original I believe. My Dad thinks the fenders may have been painted many years ago? There has never been any rust or body work and the frame and floors are perfect. The paint shines well but has many defect, cracks, crazing, pits, etc. Personally I would not paint it but that is up to the next owner. The drivers side windshield glass has a crack but is flat glass so may not be a big deal? Front seat has been reupholstered many years ago and the back seat has a custom cover. Trunk is original with original spare, jack and tools. The car comes with the original owner"s manual plus other documents. The car is currently registered in my name and also has all former registrations and bill of sale. Paper trail is complete from original owners. Maine does not issue titles for older cars.
I would love to keep this car but the realities of college tuition"s and daughter"s weddings force this attempt to sell. I have many more pictures and the car is available for inspection and test drives by appointment. I just can"t imagine there are many original, drivable, survivor Packard"s or any cars from 1940 left in the world. True time capsule waiting to be used again.
Any questions email, call or text Mark 617-538-7970. Car is located at my home in Newfield, ME. 04095 but I have listed at my business address in Wakefield, MA. 01880 for shipping purposes, as I can bring it to Wakefield to save the new owner on shipping.
