1941Buick Super convertible LAST TIME OF ADVERTISING, IF THE CAR DOES NOT SELL I WILL CONTINUE TO WORK ON IT AND KEEP IT I AM OPEN TO SERIOUS REASONABLE OFFERS, BUT I"M NOT GIVING THE CAR AWAY
For sale is my’41 Buick convertible. I have owned the car for approximately 7 years now and have been steadily working on it with the goal of creating an old school 1940’s/50’s style custom.
The 1941 Buick was the original factory hot rod with it’s factory installed compound carburation it was rated as the world fastest production car.
This is a real convertible with original top frame, NOT a cut down.
A lot of work has been done with more to go; however this is a running driving car, so half the battle is won. Please read the entire description, feel free to ask any questions I may not have covered.
Chrome not seen on car is in the trunk, including drivers side hood latch, bumper guards, trim spears etc. etc.
Overview Mechanically the car is very sound. Many components have been rebuilt, (including the engine),refurbished or replaced. The car is basically very solid, though there is some welding needed and the car has picked up its share of dings and dents over the last 79 years
Engine and drivetrain I like to drive my cars, so dependability is important to me, with all work done to a high standard. The engine has been stripped and overhauled, the clutch and throw-out bearing is all new. The carbs have been rebuilt and a complete new exhaust system installed. I have replaced the secondary carb with a primary and direct linkage, as this gives better fuel economy and more power. Some suspension components have been replaced and new lower springs used, giving the car that hotrod, custom stance. I repeat the car has been lowered, the suspension is NOT damaged in anyway.
The brakes are all new, and the master cylinder rebuilt. Gas tank was pulled and resealed. I have rewired the car and converted the electrics to 12volts and substituted the old generator with a new alternator. The dash lights and front lights all illuminate, I have to finish wiring in the signals and tail lights. Body and Frame The body itself is rust free, with no rust in any of the panels, door, hood or trunk lid.
I have started to strip some of the fussy chrome off for a smooth look including the trunk handle. All of this will come with the car, so you can put it back if you choose. The frame is rock solid with no rust at all . There are some rust areas though; they are the drivers floor board (a new repair panel is included in the sale) and passenger side rear is weak. The trunk floor is solid, however the area under the lip is rusted through, this area is covered over by a chrome strip. The inner rockers on both sides have significant rust holes, these are not structural though. Repair panels are available to replace these. As the car has been in the dry for so many years, the rust areas are dry and easy to repair.
Stainless trim is in good condition, but the chrome shows its age with surface rust on the bumpers, no rust through . The doors close nicely and do NOT sag . Interior As with most dry state cars, the interior is dried out. I was going to go the Mexican blanket route with these. The front seat base is missing, though I will include one from a 50’s Buick convertible that will fit with some modification.
Door panels and rear panels are present, the kick panels are missing.
The convertible top will need replacing, if you intend putting the top up (something I never need to do in Vegas). Miscellaneous The vacuum top mechanism doesn’t work. All the parts of trim not on the vehicle I have boxed up, including the original windshield mounted spot lights and the original power antenna. The only things missing is the rocker trim on the passenger side, the Buick badge that goes on the trunk lid and the Buick letters for the hood (available from various suppliers). Both passenger and driver glass is broken. Summary This is a great opportunity to get one these rare and best looking convertibles of the 1940’s at a good price. You could drive it as is if you like the rat-rod look, go the nostalgia custom look or use as a great starting point for a restoration. Some fine tuning will be needed the more the car is used as everything beds in, as it’s all new. I have used premium break-in oil in the engine, this will need to be flushed after 500 miles, as per the day these car’s left the factory. Currently the car runs around on one carb, as there is a lean spot when you engage both carbs. I’m still trying to figure out the cause, possibly a vacuum leak somewhere. Payment, title, shipping etc I have a clean Nevada title in my name. In order to demonstrate that you are earnest and not a ‘sports’ bidder, I request a $300 non-refundable deposit through paypal within 24 hours. Please contact me within 24 hours of auction ending, so we can proceed with finalizing the details of the sale. Full payment is requested to be complete within 3 business days. Direct bank wire transfer is the only accepted payment method. Sorry no checks or cash deals. Shipping is entirely your responsibility, but I will help out in anyway I can. International bidders are welcome. I will make myself available at any time to help out with the shipper. I am a private car classic owner and as such do not offer a warranty with the car.
