1939 PLYMOUTH "GRUMPY GRAPE" GASSER/STREET ROD
LOTS OF GROUND TO COVER HERE SO PLEASE READ EVERYTHING. NO SUGAR COATING, NO FLUFF, JUST FACTS:
THIS CAR WAS STORED BEHIND HAY BAILS FOR THE LAST 20+ YEARS IN A BARN HERE IN SOUTHERN INDIANA.
RECENTLY IT WAS PULLED FROM THE BARN TO SELL TO SOMEONE WHO WILL ENJOY IT.
THIS COUPE HAS BEEN A "CUSTOM" CAR SINCE THE 1950"S. I HAVE HEARD LOTS OF STORIES ABOUT IT, BUT I CANNOT SAY WITH 100% ACCURACY ITS HISTORY PRIOR TO 1998 WHEN THE PREVIOUS OWNER PURCHASED IT.
THE CAR WAS BUILT INTO A MORE "MODERN" STREET ROD IN THE LATE "70"S OR EARLY 1980"S.
AS IT SITS TODAY, STARTS RIGHT UP, LOT DRIVES AND CAN BE DRIVEN ONTO A CAR HAULER. .BUT NEEDS A FULL, PROPER INVESTIGATION OF ALL COMPONENTS BEFORE STREET DRIVING. IT SEEMS THE MORE I DRIVE IT AROUND THE YARD, THE BETTER IT RUNS. SETTLES INTO A SMOOTH IDLE.
* 1939 PLYMOUTH COUPE. REAR TRUNK LID WAS SHORTENED AND A "WEDGE" TAIL PANEL WAS BUILT AND ADDED TO STRETCH THE BACK OUT. THE BODY HAS BONDO ON 90% OF IT IN SOME FORM OR ANOTHER. FROM LIGHT SKIM COATS, TO THICK SKIM COATS, TO DENT FILL/RUST REPAIR HERE, THERE AND EVERYWHERE. THE CAR LOOKS EXTREMELY COOL AND WOULD BE A FANTASTIC CAR WHEN FINISHED OUT PROPERLY. OR YOU COULD JUST HAVE FUN WITH IT AS IT IS.
CLEAR INDIANA TITLE (AS 1936 PLYMOUTH) IN HAND
* MUSTANG II FRONT CLIP, RACK & PINION AND 5 LUG ROTORS AND POWER DISC BRAKES.
BRAKES DO WORK (SORT OF) AFTER A COUPLE OF PUMPS. THEY NEED A PROPER BLEEDING I"M SURE.
* I BELIEVE THE REAR FRAME SECTION IS GM WITH A GM 10 BOLT REAR. THERE WAS SQUARE TUBING FRAME WORK USED TO BUILD FLOOR SUPPORTS AND RUNNING BOARD SUPPORTS. I WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS DRIVEN OFTEN ON LONG DISTANCE DRIVES TO VARIOUS CAR SHOWS IN THE EARLY 1990"S BUT WHO KNOWS.
* THE ENGINE AND TRANS ARE GM. V6 (BUICK I THINK) WITH AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION.
THE CAR STARTS RIGHT UP AND SEEMS TO RUN GREAT! NO SMOKE OR FUNNY NOISES. QUIET V6 ENGINE WITH DUAL EXHAUST.
TRANS WORKS. GOES IN AND OUT OF EACH GEAR. PULLS AND DRIVES (AROUND MY FIELD AND UP/DOWN THE DRIVEWAY)
THE DASH CLUSTER, SEATS AND SHIFTER WERE SCAVENGED OUT OF THE SAME GM CAR IT APPEARS.
22 GALLON GUEL CELL IN THE TRUNK.
I COULD PROBABLY DO BETTER TALKING TO POTENTIAL BUYERS ON THE PHONE AND ANSWER QUESTIONS TO THE BEST OF MY ABILITY AND ADDRESS SPECIFIC QUESTIONS/CONCERNS WITH AN UNBIASED EYE. THERE IS JUST SO MUCH A PERSON CAN TYPE OUT AND STILL NOT COVER EVERYTHING.
FEEL FREE TO SEND ME AN EMAIL AND I WILL FORWARD YOU MY TELEPHONE NUMBER AND WE CAN DISCUSS THE CAR IN DETAIL.
I CAN ALSO SEND MANY MORE PICTURES OF SPECIFIC AREAS IF YOU LIKE.
THANKS FOR CHECKING IT OUT AND BEST OF LUCK TO ALL.
