Returning to the Packard model range, the One-Twenty continued to be offered in a full range of body styles from coupe to Touring Limousine, with prices for the model range between $1,099 and $1,856. New for the year was introduction of column shifting (known in Packard parlance as Handishift), which did away with the floor shifter. Introduced in September 1938, a total of 17,647 units were built.
In 1939, the company introduced a fifth, transverse shock absorber on the 120. It also offered Packard"s Unimesh four-speed synchromesh transmission, the same as in the Twelve (and already standard on the Eight), as well as the new fourth-gear Econo-Drive overdrive, claimed to reduce engine speed 27.8%, and able to be engaged at any speed over 30 mph (48 km/h) THIS IS ESSENTIALLY AN UNRESTORED ORIGINAL 1939 PACKARD 120 BUSINESS COUPE, MODEL 1701 WITH 81,000 MILES. ORIGINAL (282 CI STRAIGHT EIGHT/3-SPEED ON THE COLUMN) ARE HEALTHY AND TOTAL UNTOUCHED. THE THERMOSTATICALLY CONTROLLED GRILLE OPERATES WELL.
THE CAR RETAINS IT"S 6-VOLT POSITIVE GROUND ELECTRICAL SYSTEM WITH SMALL TURN LIGHTS MOUNTED UNDER THE FRONT AND REAR AND OPERATED WITH A TOGGLE SWITCH. THE COLOR IS BELIEVED TO BE PACKARD"S PACIFIC BLUE THAT LOOKS GREAT WITH THE TAN INTERIOR
COMES WITH THE ORIGINAL JACK AND A SPARE. THE INTERIOR IS ALL ORIGINAL AND IN GREAT SHAPE. THE ORIGINAL FRONT MOHAIR SEAT UPHOLSTERY IS INTACT WITH A VINYL COVER IN PLACE. JUMP SEATS, DOOR PANELS, HEADLINER AND SUN- VISORS RETAIN THEIR ORIGINAL MATERIAL AS WELL. WOOD-LOOKING STEEL DASHBOARD AND GAUGES ARE IN VERY NICE CONDITION AS IS THE STEERING WHEEL. THE CLOCK AND HEATER WORK.
A COMPREHENSIVE HISTORY ALONG WITH PHOTOS IN AN ALBUM COME WITH THE VEHICLE.
THE CAR STARTS AND DRIVES GREAT. THE FUEL AND BRAKE SYSTEM WERE REDONE A FEW YEARS AGO AND STILL IN GREAT CONDITION. RECENTLY A NEW BATTERY AND POINTS WERE INSTALLED AND OIL CHANGE WAS PERFORMED. THE CAR HAS AN AUXILIARY ELECTRIC FUEL PUMP.
