Vehicle description
Here is a Buick from the era when this was the brand people aspired to own. The advanced engineering and styling created legions of loyal customers. This 46S, Opera Coupe, was designed to attract a buyer who had to travel for work and required storage space and comfort during long drives, but also needed room to accommodate a young family on a budget. Introduced in 1939 was a newly designed “waterfall” grill to increase cooling efficiency , the first column shifter, the first turn signals ever on a production car, as well as coil springs front and rear. Window glass area was increased by 200 square inches. This car is finished in Buick Yosemite Gray with a light blue - gray tweed interior. There is no rust, no dings or dents and a gleaming finish. All the chrome is exceptional, windows work properly, the rubber seals are all good, and the running boards are newly covered as well. A California car cover is included. The heart of this car is its 248 cubic inch Dynaflash straight eight engine. This overhead valve motor was completely rebuilt less than 3500 miles ago. It was hot tanked and given a slight overbore, while the head received hardened valve seats for compatibility with today’s gasoline. It starts easily, runs strong with no overheating issues or leaks. The 107 HP produced was impressive in the 30’s. The transmission is Buick’s three speed manual with a new clutch. The car retains its 6V electrical system with dual Optima batteries for strong cranking power and benefits from a new wiring harness. The radio has been converted to AM/FM and the headlights are sealed beam, with LED tail, brake, instrument panel, and turn signals. The clock has a quartz conversion. Working fog lamps, Coker radial tires, new shocks, and strong brakes make for a classic that you can actually drive and enjoy. The upholstery and headliner are free of defects and the opera seats are functional. The steering wheel has been recast to a flawless smooth finish. All of the interior window trims and the dashboard have been recently wood grained in a burl finish, and gives the driver the impression of sitting in a new car. These pre-war American cars have a look all of their own, they were graceful metal sculptures with durable simple mechanics to power them. Take this opportunity to own this 1939 model and relive the days when Buick was king. All sales are final with the car being sold where is and as is.
