Vehicle description

1938 Chevrolet Chevy Truck NO RESERVE! !
Here we have a truly unique piece of American history. It is a great rust free truck, but is really much more than that.
First off, a rust free 1938 anything is pretty hard to find, but this one is extremely solid, no rust through anywhere that I can find. It has a few dings here and there, but is truly a very straight vehicle. It gets better - this truck still has its original engine, and it fires right up and sounds like it would have 80 years ago. The transmission shifts fine, and even the brakes work like they should - amazing! I put a 12 volt battery in it - and just ran a jumper wire to the coil, so it will need either a 6 volt battery, or converted to 12 volt, which is very easy.
As I stated before, the body is very solid. The driver side door has been welded a bit to repair a crack, and there is a piece of the bumper missing. It could also use new glass - but it is all flat and pretty cheap. Oil pressure and temp gauge work, didn"t try fuel and volt gauges - didn"t want to fry them with 12 volts.
Now to what I think is the best part - the layers of paint which are actually layers of history. Here is what I believe - it appears this truck was originally owned by either the forestry service or public roads dept., I am guessing in California. Its next stop, as is often the case with federal vehicles, was a fire dept. The green was painted over with red, and you can just make out "West Portal fire dept.", which is a neighborhood in San Francisco. After that it must have been shipped to Colorado, as I can make out "Hideaway park fire dept.", which appears to be in Colorado. I don"t know exactly how, but sometime after that it made its way to Kansas, and I was lucky enough to find it in its current condition. This is the reason I love old trucks! Some trucks are meant to be restored, some turned into rat-rods, and then, occasionally, you find one that has 80 years of history written all over it, and is perfect just the way it is (in my humble opinion). I have applied for a Kansas title, and will guarantee you a clean Kansas title, I have all the paperwork - but the state is running behind due to Covid - and it could be a few weeks before it gets printed. I have no problem with this sitting here a while to arrange transport - as long as it is paid for. Call Eric at with any questions.
