Vehicle description

Own a distinct part of US automotive history. In 1937, Studebaker beat Ford and Chevy (by decades) in introducing the first stylish pickup based on a car design. The Coupe Express utility pickup was built on the 5A Dictator chassis, and shared the Dictator’s classic front-end sheet metal. A new panel was made to enclose the cab and a 16 gauge, double-wall, all steel pickup bed was fitted out back, with a single side mounted spare wheel keeping the bed open for cargo. The resulting look had a bit of factory hot-rod flair to it. The Coupe Express combined car-like comfort with a ½ ton capacity truck bed. The Coupe Express was a novelty, and just 3,125 were produced in 1937. The Studebaker Coupe Express offered for sale here is a frame-up rebuild of a pristine, rust-free original. Stainless steel fasteners were used throughout and the frame was completely powder coated silver. The all-steel body encloses a 270 Dodge Hemi, three two-barrel carburetors, Muncie 4-speed transmission, Chevy 10-bolt rear-end and Kugel Mustang II front suspension. The paint job of regal blue and silver was expertly applied. The American Racing Hopster wheels add a classic look to this tastefully modified Studebaker. Magnificent and lustrous oak in the truck bed floor is a show stopper. Inside, the blue and silver color scheme extends to the custom upholstery and dashboard. The original Studebaker logo and classic instrument gauges add even more charm. Don’t miss this chance to own a classic piece of automotive history and set yourself above the crowd. Drive home in style. (Photos were taken when the car was recently located in Libby, Montana) Delivery to be arranged with the seller.
