When first unveiled in 1932, Ford set new standards delivering smooth V8 power in a stylish, reliable and attractively priced platform . For the first time ever, an 8 cylinder configured in a V formation was affordable to the masses. Though introduced in the grips of the great depression they offered a great deal and sold well. Ford was the one to buy & consumers clamored to its luxuriously smooth, comfortably powerful V8. The Ford flathead V8 is one of the most influential and innovative power trains in the history of the automobiles development and powered FoMoCo products into the mid-1950s. It jumped Ford well ahead of the Chevrolet, Dodge, Plymouth and other transportation market competitors & maintained Ford’s sales leadership for a decade or so. Introduced in 1935, the Ford Model 48 was an update from Ford’s bread and butter model 40A. The Model 48 sold well; 820,000 Model 48s left Ford showrooms with savvy new owners in 1935-36, skyrocketing Ford’s sales dramatically over GM rival Chevrolet.
The 1936 Model 48 Roadster on offer here enjoys a recent professional restoration. It is dressed in a handsome, original specification color matched burgundy two stage paint, with a gold pinstripe down the sides of the body as was often done by dealers in period. The light tan & correct cloth top and a tobacco brown leather interior complement the color beautifully. It is the Deluxe edition of the model which adds a rumble seat, oil pressure gauge, radio, and dual windshield wipers. It was a top of the line offering in period. it is one of less than 4,000 DeLuxe Roadsters built in 1936. There are far fewer remaining. The roadster on offer here runs and drives nicely having had all systems refurbished in restoration. It is go….or show ready and wants for nothing but a new curator to enjoy its many charms.
