1934 Ford Deluxe Fordor Sedan Vehicle Information VIN: 181175602 Mileage: 2 Color: White Trans: 3-Speed Manual Engine: 221 ci V8 Title: Clear Interior: Black Video Description 1934 Ford Deluxe Fordor Sedan Frame-off restoration White exterior with black LeBaron Bonney mohair interior 221 CID 21-stud Flathead V-8 engine with electric cooling fan and 12-volt charging system Three-speed sliding-mesh manual transmission and 4.11 gearing Wire wheels, cowl lights, dual horns, dual sideview mirrors and rear coach doors Seldom-seen Potters trunk plus spare tire, wheel 112-inch wheelbase “I will tell you what a dandy car you make…even if my business hasen’t [sic] been strickly [sic] legal, it don’t [sic] hurt to tell you what a fine car you got in the V-8.” That high praise is reportedly from Clyde Barrow, of Bonnie and Clyde fame, in a hand-written letter to Henry Ford from Tulsa, Oklahoma dated April 10, 1934. This 1934 Ford Deluxe Fordor has led a better life than the one those two met their fate in, but the praise is the same. Ford’s Models 18 and 40 continued to build on the success laid by the Models T and A in earlier decades. This example has been treated to a frame-off restoration and it looks like it is fresh from a showroom floor. This stunning 1934 Ford Deluxe was a recipient of a frame off restoration dressed in white, the car’s paint and trim are in overall excellent condition. The bodywork is straight and solid, and the engine bay is extremely tidy while there is a Potters trunk and a rear-mounted spare tire and wheel. The chrome bumpers fit tightly to the body. There is only a windshield wiper (inop) on the driver’s side, but the car does have dual taillamps, along with cowl lights and dual horns. This car rolls on BFG Silvertown tires, size 6.00-16 at every corner and each tire is mounted on a factory wire wheel. The tires are in good, original order while the wheels are in very good shape. The car rides on a 112-inch wheelbase. Under the hood is Ford’s venerable Flathead V-8. Here it is the 221 CID version with 21 studs. It is married to a three-speed, sliding-mesh manual transmission and backed with a 4.11:1 rear end. Inside, the black cloth interior is the perfect complement to the exterior. The front and rear bench seats are in overall excellent order, as is the neutral headliner and the two-spoke, black steering wheel. The inner door panels are in similar order, as is the white metal instrument panel with an array of Classic Instruments. A floor-mounted shifter completes the interior. The 1934 Ford (the Model 40B) was not as substantial a model year change as the previous two years had been. Noticeable changes included a flatter grille with a wider surround and fewer bars, straight hood louvers, two handles on each side of the hood, smaller head lights and cowl lamps, and a reworked logo. The bare metal dash insert was replaced by painted steel. V‑8 output was again increased and there were 14 body options, the Tudor being top-seller. Deluxes had pinstriping, again twin (chromed) horns and twin back lights. Inside, they got more elaborate wood graining. Competition to this Ford in 1934 included Dodge’s Six Series Dr, Ford’s DA Master Series Club Sedan, Hudson’s Challenger Series LTS Sedan, Nash’s Lafayette Series 110 Sedan with trunk, Plymouth’s De Luxe PE series Sedan and Pontiac’s Eight Series 603 Sedan and Terraplane’s K Series Trunk Sedan.
