1931 Ford Model A Five-Window Coupe Vehicle Information VIN: 4261609 Mileage: 207 Color: Dark Green Trans: Three-speed sliding gear manual Engine: 201 CID inline four-cyl Title: Clear Interior: Tan Video Description 1931 Ford Model A Five-Window Coupe
• Same owner for the past 36 years! • Final model year for Model As • Dark green exterior with yellow pinstripe • Tan cloth interior • Yellow wire wheels • 201 CID inline four-cylinder engine with L-head • Three-speed sliding gear manual transmission and 3.77 gearing • Cowl lights, driver’s side windshield wiper and taillight • Tilt-out windshield, rumble seat and rear-mounted spare tire with matching wire wheel
This A-bone’s dark green paint is in good, order with some blemishes visible, especially on the passenger side. The bodywork overall is straight and solid and the car offers a few extras, such as cowl lights and a rear-mounted spare tire with matching wire wheel. The car’s engine bay is in good, original order and its twin-bladed chrome bumpers.
Under that double-sided hood is Ford’s 201 CID inline four-cylinder engine with L-head. It is mated to a sliding gear, three-speed manual transmission with reverse and a 3.77:1 rear end.
This car rolls on Firestone gum-dipped tires, size 4.75-5.00-19 at every corner and the spare. Each one is mounted on a yellow, factory wire wheel, which provides pleasing contrast to the body color. The wheels and tires are in very good order.
Inside, the tan cloth bench seat is in great shape, as is the matching headliner. A four-spoke steering wheel faces the driver. The inner door liners are in very good condition and the metal dashboard is in good, original order. A floor-mounted shift lever completes the interior but the amp gauge, speedometer/odo and horn are inoperable.
By 1931, Henry Ford’s Lady that replaced the Tin Lizzie was in its waning phase. The Model A offered buyers elegant styling, a sliding-gear transmission, four-wheel brakes, improved fuel economy, a laminated safety glass windshield, hydraulic shock absorbers and a 200.5-cu.in. four-cylinder engine rated at 40 horsepower, enough to deliver a top speed of 65 mph. It was the first Ford to use a standard set of driver controls with conventional clutch and brake pedals; throttle and gearshift. The fuel tank is in the cowl, between the dashboard and firewall. Gas flows to the carburetor via gravity. In cooler climes, owners could buy an aftermarket part to put over the exhaust manifold to donate waste heat to the cabin. A small door allowed adjustment of how much air entered.
Competition to the Model A in 1931 included Chevrolet’s Series AE Independence five-window coupe; Essex’s 6 Series E Coupe, Plymouth’s U 30 Rumble Seat Coupe and Willys 6-97 Coupe.
