Coming off its first major hit, the Model T, Ford began to see a decline in sales in 1926. This decline prompted Henry Ford and his namesake company to introduce its newest automobile, the Model A on December 2, 1927. Produced between 1928–1931, the Model A was another highly successful car for Ford Motor Company with Ford selling millions of units. Over the years, the Model A came in many different body styles, everything from coupes to sedans to roadsters to convertibles. Introduced on May 22, 1931 the 400-A, otherwise known as the A400, is one of the most collectible body styles for the Model A due to the fact that it was only available in 1931 and less than 5,000 units were produced by Ford. The Model A400 is a 5 passenger Convertible Sedan and was a part of the sportier Deluxe line of Model A cars. Standard equipment included cowl lights, left side mounted spare tire, chrome windshield frame, leather upholstery, rear arm rests, and more. This particular Model A400 underwent an extensive frame-off restoration and shows extremely well. Under the hood on this 1931 Model is a 200.5 Cubic Inch L-Head Inline 4 Cylinder engine with a single barrel carburetor that pushed out a whopping 40 horsepower in its day. The Inline 4 engine is mated to a 3 speed manual transmission that is shifted using the floor mounted shifter. The chrome and brightwork around the exterior of the car in excellent condition likely having been either refinished or replaced during the restoration. A luggage rack is mounted in the rear of the vehicle as well. The exterior has been refinished in a beautiful two-tone paint scheme consisting of Washington Blue and Riviera Blue with Tacoma Cream pinstriping. The classic Ford rides on 4 Tacoma Cream painted wire wheels with blackwall bias-ply tires. The beige canvas convertible top is in excellent condition, completing the exterior look of the car. The interior on this Model A Convertible Sedan is absolutely stunning! The front bucket seats and rear bench seat have all been reupholstered in beautiful Deep Tan Crush Leather, just like how this car came back in 1931. The door panels were also reupholstered correctly in a matching artificial leather material. The woodgrain dash and trim around the windows, as well as the steering wheel, are all in fantastic shape. The dash is in its stock configuration, equipped with an 80 MPH speedometer, amp gauge, and fuel gauge. Whether you"re an established Model A collector or you"re looking for your very first classic car, this 1931 Ford 400-A Convertible Sedan would be an excellent choice. Give us a call today!
