Vehicle description

Best-known simply as the National, Chevrolet"s Series AB National line of 1928 succeeded the AA Capitol of 1927. Riding upon a four-inch longer 107-inch wheelbase, the National was one of the first projects undertaken by famed GM chief stylist Harley Earl and his GM and Colour Studio. In addition to their updated styling, the series AB models represented the end of an era, with power delivered by the final development of Chevrolet"s venerable 171 cubic-inch inline four-cylinder engine. One if the Marque"s first automobile engines, Chevrolet"s 171 was designed by Arthur Mason and launched 1913. An overhead-valve design with exposed push rods and a detachable cross flow cylinder head, it was advertised by Chevrolet as a "valve-in-head engine and respected as a more modern alternative to the Flathead designs of the competition. Displacement remained unchanged throughout its production run that ended in 1928. In its final form, the Chevy 171 "four" developed 35 horsepower at 2,200 RPM with carburetor updates, increased compression, aluminum pistons, and larger valves. The AB National also ushered in four-wheel braking. An unqualified commercial success, over 785,000 of theses excellent and dependable Chevrolet"s were built for 1928. Rust free example of the 1928 National AB line is a four-door Touring Sedan with fresh paint in the stock colors yellow, and brown with black fenders and a clean and detailed undercarriage. The cylinder head was resurfaced, given valve job, and reinstalled with all-new gaskets. Featuring original upholstery, the Chevrolet is complete with all stock window-glass and windshield seals. The carburetor, starter, generator, water pump, and vacuum-type fuel pump were rebuilt, and new belts, hoses, and battery cables were fitted, along with a new oil filter. The wood-spoke wheels and tires are reported to remain in great condition, and the tires are equipped with new inner tubes. A particularly desirable update is the addition of a set of four-wheel disk brakes for improved stopping. Offered complete with a CLEAR CAR TITTLE, this 1928 National AB handsomely represents the final model-year of Chevrolet"s early four-cylinder models.
