Vehicle description
This wild little rod was built in California by a father and son team to replicate the hot rods that were built by GI"s returning from WWII. Many of the hard to find parts were items the father, Butch, had squirreled away over many years of building hot rod cars and boats. Unfortunately Butch passed away before the car was finished and his son, Rob, finished the car as a tribute to his father using some of Dad"s saved items from his military service. The military theme was carried throughout the build including Lockheed Electra bomber seats which have been reupholstered with pleated red vinyl inserts, vintage bomber seat belts, dash controls, olive drab green paint, and Butch"s own canteen which was used as the coolant recovery tank. Interestingly, the canteen has three chrysanthemum pins which were given to Japanese soldiers as awards. Butch removed them from a Japanese Lieutenant during his service. The body is and original T coupe that has been chopped 6" and channeled 3". The owner fabricated frame is z"d 9" at the rear and uses a Model A rear crossmember. The front end is a dropped, drilled, and filled "32 axle suspended from a suicide perch. Power comes from a heavily modified "62-"65 Chevy II 4cyl with a vintage Algon mechanical fuel injection system which is fed by a belt driven Hilborn fuel pump. The custom headers are only moderately quieted by small baffles at the end of those long straight pipes. The transmission is a T5 5-speed and the rear is a "48 Ford banjo. The front brakes are "40 Ford hydraulic units and the rear are "48 Ford truck. The wheels are "35 Ford 16" wires which have been powder coated red. Some picture show the car with KH bent spokes on the rear but the have been replaced "35 Ford items to match the fronts. Both wishbones have been split and drilled. The rear end has been triangulated using old Ford drag links welded to the wishbones! The steering column is dropped using Model A connecting rods. An original T gas tank resides in the trunk alongside the battery. The list of unique parts used and modifications are extensive.Once the build was finished, Rob had famed pinstriper Dennis Ricklefs work his magic, adding the tribute to Butch on the decklid and some tasty lines around the car. This T has been featured in the July "10 issue of HOT ROD Magazine and the September "12 issue of OL" SKOOL RODZ (#53).This is a wild, noisy, obnoxious ride. If you don"t want to draw a crowd wherever you take it this is not the car for you. Please study the pictures and email with questions. I can assist with coordinating shipping.
