Vehicle description
Vehicle Details 1915 Model T Roadster – This car resulted from a complete frame-up restoration starting with a frame on a pair of saw horses and building the car with all new and rebuilt components. The short block was done by Harkin Machine in Watertown, SD. The engine was completed with over-sized valves, hardened valve seats, reground cam and later crankshaft, straightened lighter weight conn rods, aluminum pistons and new timing gear. Of course, all babbitt was replaced. The block is the original with serial number 840717 so the modifications were made to mount a starter. There is an externally mounted alternator. The engine runs fine on mag or battery. The battery is mounted on the running board but a between-the-frame-rails hanger is included for moving the battery. For the transmission, the magnets were recharged, weighed, mounted correctly on the flywheel with a new starter gear and the system balanced. Triple gear bushings we replaced and new band linings installed. The three trans drums were balanced and the center shaft trued on a lathe. All of this resulted in an exceptionally smooth-running engine. With the new flat-tube radiator, the engine runs cool. The rear axle assembly was rebuilt with new ring and pinion gears, bronze washers and axel shafts. The four Hyatt bearings measured 0.498”. The front axle was repaired with new bushings, king pins, spring perch sleeves and Timken roller bearings. The wood-fellow wheels were redone with hickory by John Kutarna Regina, Saskatchewan. Several people have asked me if the spoke/fellow assembly was made from one piece of wood, the work is of such good quality. This car is not a parade car – it is meant for touring and to this end Rocky Mountain Brakes were installed and have proven to be a great addition (safety). The paint is a DuPont compounded base coat without the clear coat to more closely resemble paint quality of the period. A new interior kit and top were installed along with laminated windshield glass. One concern with the top is it is functional, but could be refitted to look better. There is a set of side curtains. The brass components are period with the exception of the cowl lights which are gold-plated ( find, no need to polish these!). This car is an excellent driver and was used on several tours over the years. Along the way I fitted a period correct wood pickup bed but the turtle deck is there and goes with the car. I have found that the pickup configuration is, maybe, less stylistic but a lot more useful. This car has been part of a collection of 10 Model T’s plus other collector cars so the total miles driven is not large. My years are accumulating so it is now time for it to go to someone else who appreciates the quality of the restoration and will enjoy it. It is located in Dade City, FL and I can help with transportation for a fee if the distance is not too great. Images Download the Motors app
